Описание: Since their discovery as HIV co-receptors in 1996, chemokine receptors have been widely studied within the field of HIV pathogenesis, including neuroAIDS. However, though their role in infection of target cells and in inflammatory/immune responses is relatively well-characterized, their relevance with respect to neuropathogenesis is still unclear.

Описание: The Ghrelin receptor was identified before its natural ligand ghrelin. This receptor is found both centrally and peripherally, and has been shown to affect various processes, such as food intake, gut motility, memory, glucose and lipid metabolism, cardiovascular performances, reproduction, memory, and immunological responses, amongst others. The functions of the ghrelin receptor in the central nervous system are numerous and are still being explored. In this book we specifically focus on the various roles of the ghrelin receptor in the central nervous system. In a first set of chapters, the book will focus on the discovery and the properties of this intriguing constitutively active G-protein coupled receptor, on its multiple intracellular transduction mechanisms and the various subtypes of the currently known ghrelin receptor complexes. Next, the book will elaborate on the mitochondrial mechanisms regulated by the ghrelin receptor, its role in feeding and drug addictive mechanisms, memory, sleep and arousal. The final chapters focus on the potential of this receptor as a target for the treatment of neurological disorders including Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, anxiety and depression.

Therapeutic Applications of Dopamine D3 Receptor Function

Описание: The CTBN volume Therapeutic Applications of Dopamine D3 Receptor Function reviews the state of the knowledge on the dopamine D3 receptor and its role in human behavior and disease (i.e.: neuropsychiatric illnesses including schizophrenia, mood disorders, Parkinson’s disease, restless legs syndrome, addictions and substance use disorders). The volume is written by leading experts across multidisciplinary areas (imaging, biobehavioral testing and clinical trials, preclinical models / molecular pharmacology) converging on the therapeutic implications / potential of the D3 receptor. The D3 dopamine receptor is a member of the D2-like family of G protein-coupled receptors. It was cloned and characterized almost 25 years ago. A key feature of the D3 dopamine receptor system, which has attracted considerable attention, is its anatomical localization remarkably restricted to the limbic circuitry. This has spurred the hypothesis that D3 involvement could contribute to the pathophysiology of neuropsychiatric disorders (or to some features of neuropsychiatric disorders), including but not limited to psychosis, addictions and substance abuse, mood and movement disorders.

Описание: The bestselling first edition of Textbook of Receptor Pharmacology originated from a renowned course in receptor pharmacology taught at the University College of London for the past three decades. Its innovative format united four major approaches to the study of receptors: molecular biology, quantitative functional studies of agonists and antagonists, ligand binding, and signal transduction systems. The second edition builds on this foundation. This edition streamlines the material and focuses on cell membrane receptors along with their immediate signal transducers. The section on the molecular structure of receptors reflects the advances in this area. This edition also includes two restructured new chapters, one on G-proteins and one on tyrosine kinases, as signal transductors. Several chapters also contain problems for students to solve as well as worked-out solutions. The book contains over one hundred useful diagrams and tables to aid illustration of concepts and a helpful appendix explaining the simple mathematics used in the text. A time-saving resource and comprehensive textbook, Textbook of Receptor Pharmacology, Second Edition provides in-depth, up-to-date coverage of this
