Название: The Stewardship of Higher Education: Re-imagining the Role of Education and Wellness on Community Impact ISBN: 9462093679 ISBN-13(EAN): 9789462093676 Издательство: Brill Рейтинг: Цена: 119540.00 T Наличие на складе: Невозможна поставка. Описание: Understanding the entrepreneurial nature of universities—in particular, the relationship between education and health in relation to development and wellness of communities—this volume provides a description/narration of the efforts in how universities can address their shifting contexts while engaging their communities in social change. In the development of this book, we have explored how reforms in American higher education are impacting the role of universities and their faculty. Contributors were asked to imagine possibilities for research and outreach by providing salient examples of how higher education can lead and change how we view the role of health and education within institutions and society. Each author writes across common themes that address the problems and possibilities of higher education curriculum and projects aligned with the mission of stewardship. The authors highlight interdisciplinary approaches and projects for faculty work, modification of the Teaching-Research-Service expectations, and community initiatives that can emerge from real-life problems (to impact wellbeing) and create rich and deep research possibilities for practitioners to impact both higher education and society. The process and research approaches used by the authors include imagining the community as part of a process of the change and part of what changes, exploring how community change can build on the strengths of local people, and why community organization and advocacy should revolve around social learning and community capacity theories. Given the diversity of topics and approaches, as editors we have tried to honour both the authors’ words and style in expressing their opinions to provide a forum for the readers to envision stewardship.

Through the artful science of portraiture, The Pedagogy of Teacher Activism presents the stories of four teacher activists—how they are and have become social change agents—to uncover important pedagogical underpinnings of teacher activism. Embedded in their stories are moments of political clarity and consciousness, giving rise to their purpose as teacher activists. The narratives illuminate how both inner passions and those stirred by caring relationships with others motivate their work, while the intentional ways in which they attempt to disrupt power relations give shape to their approaches to teacher activism. Knowing their work will never truly be done and that the road they travel is often difficult, the teacher activists considered here persist because of the hope and possibility that their work might change the world. Like many pre-service educators or undergraduates contemplating teaching as a vocation, these teacher activists were not born ready for the work that they do. Yet by mining their biographical histories and trajectories of political development, this book illuminates the pedagogy of teacher activism that guides their work.
This book offers the Teach Plus curriculum for amplifying teacher voice and creating more teacher leaders. It's a one-stop shop for educators who are interested in learning about the big picture in K12 education, and how they can affect it. It includes a clear view of Policy and Advocacy; a Teacher Leader How-To Guide; and stories from the trenches in getting teachers seats at decision-making tables across the nation. The book is structured with 10 chapters that correspond to the top ten things teachers need to know and be able to do to be effective change leaders. Each chapter is anchored with a story of effective teacher advocacy.
Teacher interest in taking greater leadership over the issues that affect American classrooms is at an all-time high. At the same time, teacher union strength and teacher morale have reached all-time lows. Teachers are seeking expanded influence and coming up short. Most teachers lack the knowledge and skills to be effective in advocating for their students' needs as well as their own. In some areas of education reform, teacher actions are increasing the odds that practitioners will be excluded from the decision-making table in the future. Teacher voice is essential to good education policy, yet teachers need new information to move from being perceived as the "party of no" to being recognized for their problem-solving ability.
Despite the obstacles, some teachers are having success advocating for important changes on behalf of their students and their profession. What makes these teachers different? They have learned the unwritten rules and tacit knowledge that governs decision-making in education. They have a playbook that gets them a seat at the decision-making table and results that benefit their students. Their experiences can point a way forward, and empower all teachers.

Описание: This book sets out to examine the changing role of women in higher education with an emphasis on academic and leadership issues. The scope of the book is international, with a wide range of contributors, whose expertise spans sociology, social science, economics, politics, public policy and linguistic studies, all of whom have a major interest in global education. The volume examines the ways in which the leadership role and academic roles of women in higher education are changing in the twenty first century, offering an up-to-date policy discussion of this area. It is in some sense a sequel to the earlier volume by the same Editor, Women as Leaders and Managers in Higher Education, but with very different emphases. The pressures now are to respond to the demands of the technological age and to those of the global economy. Today there are more highly qualified and experienced female academics, and more expectation of their gaining the highest posts. Challenges still remain, particularly in terms of the top posts, and in equal pay. The discussion of global policy issues affecting the role of women in higher education is combined with country case studies, several of which are comparative. Together they examine and unpack the particular situations of women in a wide range of higher education systems, from Brazil to the US to Europe to Africa and the Far East, noting the shift towards more flexibility, more personal choice and a greater acceptance by society of their abilities. This volume is a useful and influential addition to published work in this area, and is aimed at the intelligent general reader as well as the scholar interested in this topic.

Автор: Mike Bottery, Wong Ping-Man, George Ngai Название: Sustainable School Leadership: Portraits of Individuality ISBN: 135000524X ISBN-13(EAN): 9781350005242 Издательство: Bloomsbury Academic Рейтинг: Цена: 89760.00 T Наличие на складе: Есть у поставщика Поставка под заказ. Описание: We live in a complex age, with multiple challenges to the practice of educational leadership, and where there is widespread evidence of individuals wanting to retire early from leadership positions, and of fewer wishing to take up the role.
This highly experienced team of cross-cultural researchers combine scholarly research with over a decade of extensive empirical research using an innovative 'portrait' methodology to investigate the challenges that educational leaders on two continents currently face. The kinds of challenges described include: - the personal (e.g. being new to the job, coping with the role, approaching retirement) - the inter-personal (e.g. power relations, personal challenges with staff, parents and children) - the local (e.g. issues faced by the school in the community) - the national (e.g. government initiatives, inspection) - the global (e.g. the impact of economic forces on political and institutional management).
Sustainable School Leadership then contributes to the field of educational leadership in several ways. First, the authors bring scholarly enquiry to life by providing detailed descriptions of the challenges which individual educational leaders face in different cultures in a globalised world. Second, they show how the combined insights from individual portraits provide important and meaningful critiques of national policies and organizational functioning. Such critiques can then inform current and future leadership research by a better understanding of how links between the micro-, meso-, and macro-levels of education promote or discourage school leaders' sustainability. Finally, the authors present important cross-cultural comparisons of eastern and western approaches to educational leadership, suggesting that sustainability - or a lack of it - may have different roots in different cultures. Sustainable School Leadership is relevant to students on educational leadership and management courses, academics and researchers and school leaders.
