Описание:

The 21st century is characterised by ever greater reliance on the innovation paradigm of Human Centred Design (HCD). In many sectors, the practices of "technology push" and "market pull" have been giving ground to newer ways of innovating which are based more on careful attention to the characteristics and needs of people. Where ethnographic, ergonomic and UX practices were once the remit of only the design teams, the practices and values of HCD are now permeating widely, leading in many cases to business restructuring.

There is currently a great need for introductory materials to help professionals of all types to understand and deploy HCD methods. The automotive sector, characterised by large and sophisticated organisations, and by more than a century of success, is one sector with extensive requirements for HCD methods.

The authors are experts in automotive Ergonomics, UX and HMI who felt the need for a compendium written in simple everyday language, an inclusive and easily accessible reference. The resulting introductory book links the philosophy of the Human Centred Design innovation to the basic methods and simple everyday steps which can be taken to better understand customers and to better define briefs and tests.

The book should prove a valuable reference to automotive designers who wish to more deeply integrate HCD into their everyday work, and to any professional who wishes to widen her or his skill set and understanding of HCD. The information regarding the selection of HCD methods, and their deployment, should provide a gentle introduction to the world of Human Centred Design.

Описание: Human Centred Design?integrates multidisciplinary expertise towards enhancing human well-being and empowering people. In its most basic form it leads to products, systems and services which are physically, perceptually, cognitively and emotionally intuitive. In its most advanced form it discovers and unlocks latent needs and desires, supporting the achievement of desired futures for society. Automotive Human Centred Design Methods is a handbook of techniques aimed directly at designers, but which will hopefully be purchased also by engineers, marketers, branding experts and customer relations teams. The "value proposition" of the book is that it provides an easy introduction to the world of human centred design methods for those automotive sector experts who are currently being asked to widen their skill set. Most automotive sector businesses are currently forcing their staff to consider customer needs and desires as part of their day-to-day activity, i.e. the companies are telling staff that they cannot continue to concentrate only on matters of mathematics, statistics or creative?conception. The book is attempting to "ride the wave" of the current move?from "designed by experts" to " products for the people by the people". In summary, the core audience for the book?can be predicted to be designers. This book focuses on the methods that capture the visible and invisible information about customers, including data about their interactions with the motor vehicle, their behaviour towards certain components, and their beliefs and values toward the brand as a whole. An extensive literature review was performed by the authors to review all currently available human centred design methods. Search sources included both academic and non-academic databases. Over 600 methods were initially identified using the search terms, of which 327 were eligible, 270 were excluded because of duplication and 51 were collected and included in this book. A series of workshops with automotive designers was carried out to validate the method set collected. Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is providing a formal corporate introduction which will discuss and support the need for human centred design in the automotive industry and will mention JLR's sponsorship of the AutoHabLab project, which lead to the?book. The introduction will state that the book represents an attempt at "cultural change" from a purely technical focus to a more?customer orientated focus. In addition, JLR images will be used as "section breaks" when passing from one type of information to another. Those images will include JLR products and brand priorities.

Описание: A history of Rangers goalies through the ages

New York Rangers fans have always loved their goaltenders and, throughout their history, the Blueshirts have been blessed with some of the very best in the game. Through the first nine-plus decades of their existence, eighty-eight men from Canada, the United States, and Europe have toiled between the pipes at Madison Square Garden. They all shared the same responsibility, yet each brought their own style, personality, character, and idiosyncrasies to the position and provided unique memories for those of us who watched them.

In Guardians of the Goal, each one of these brave men is discussed in chronological order, while providing an overview of their era and the general managers and coaches they played for. Such players highlighted in this book include:

- Mike Richter

- Ed Giacomin

- John Vanbiesbrouck

- Henrik Lundqvist

- Davey Kerr

- And many more.

Regardless of whether they were a franchise goalie, a flash in the pan, or an emergency fill-in, each of these "Lone Rangers," or as Steve Baker once called them, "The few, the proud, and the very busy," have one thing in common: they all tried their best to keep that little one-inch by three-inch piece of frozen, vulcanized rubber out of the gaping twenty-four square foot chasm behind them. Some were more successful than others, but as you will see, although they may occasionally "steal" a game, in most cases a goaltender is only as good as the team in front of him.

Guardians of the Goal is just that: an ode to those Blueshirts who laid it out night in and night out, leaving it all out on the ice for our Rangers.

Описание:

The Handbook of Formal Argumentation is a community effort aimed at providing a comprehensive and up-to-date view of the state of the art and current trends in the lively research field of formal argumentation.

The first volume of the Handbook is organised into five parts, containing nineteen chapters in all, each written by leading experts in the field.
The first part provides a general and historical perspective on the field.
The second part gives a comprehensive coverage of the argumentation formalisms available in the literature at various levels of abstraction.
The third part is devoted to cover some of the many dialogical aspects of argumentation, while the fourth one deals with
algorithmic, computational and implementation issues.
Finally, the fifth part provides some deeper analyses on the previously introduced topics.

The Handbook of Formal Argumentation is an open-ended initiative of which the present volume is the first outcome. Further volumes are planned to cover topics not included in the present one and the initiative is conceived to grow by the support and feeding it receives from the community members.
