Описание: A great deal is known about how infants form attachments, and how these processes carry over into adolescence. But after that, the trail grows cold: the study of adult attachment emphasizes individual variations, paying little attention to the normative mechanisms of adult bonding.ГЇВїВЅГЇВїВЅ A much-needed corrective, Bases of Adult Attachment examines this under-investigated topic with an eye toward creating a robust theoretical model. The first volume of its kind, its multilevel approach integrates current findings from neuroscience and psychology to analyze the processes by which adult relationships develop, mature, function, and dissolve. Here in relevant detail are factors contributing to initial attraction, possible scenarios in the evolution from friendship to attachment, and the changes that occur on both sides of a relationship as partners mutually influence each other`s behavior, emotions, cognition, and even physiology. And expert contributors address long-neglected questions in the field with stimulating topics such as:ГЇВїВЅГЇВїВЅГЇВїВЅГЇВїВЅ The distress-relief dynamic in attachment bonding. An expectancy-value approach to attachment. The biobehavioral legacy of early attachment relationships for adult emotional and interpersonal functioning. How early experiences shape attraction, partner preferences, and attachment dynamics. How mental representations change as attachments form. Insights into the formation of attachment bonds from a social network perspective. Bases of Adult Attachment will interest scholars approaching adult attachment at multiple levels of analysis (neural, physiological, affective, cognitive, and behavioral) and from multiple perspectives. This wide audience includes developmental, social, and cognitive psychologists as well as neuroscientists, neuropsychologists, clinicians, sociologists, family researchers, and professionals in public health and medicin

Описание: This practical guide provides a robust positive-parenting framework for professionals coaching parents of infants, toddlers, and primary school children. The first half of the book explains behaviorist and attachment theories of parenting, comparing, contrasting, and synthesizing them into an effective, research-informed approach to practice. The second half shows these guidelines in action, using play therapy as a means to improve disruptive child behaviors, correct harsh parenting practices, and address root causes of adversarial parent-child relationships. Throughout these chapters, vivid composite cases demonstrate not only common parent-child impasses but also therapist empathy, flexibility, and self-awareness. This innovative text: * Makes a rigorous case for a combined behavioral/attachment approach to parent coaching. * Reviews current data on behavioral and attachment-based parenting interventions. * Details the use of an attachment-informed approach to providing behavioral interventions such as Parent-Child Interaction Therapy and Helping the Noncompliant Child. * Illustrates how parent coaching can be tailored to match different patterns of attachment. * Includes tools for evaluating coaching sessions. Integrating Behaviorism and Attachment Theory in Parent Coaching is an essential guide for professionals, graduate students, and researchers in clinical, child and school psychology, social work, pediatrics, mental health counseling, and nursing.

Описание: This monograph examines the interplay between behavioral and cognitive representations of attachmet during early childhood. We track the continued development of secure base support and use while assessing maternal co-construction processes and thier joint impact on children's secure base behavior and attachment representations. First, our investigation establishes that smoothly interacting dyads have mothers who continue to provide secure base support and children who use them as secure base across early childhood (mother sensitivity-child security links). Furthermore, the patterning of children's secure base behavior when interacting with the mother is related to the structure of children's knowledge about secure base relationships. Second, we introduce mother co-construction skills and evaluate their impact on the mother child relationship. Using two different co-construction tasks, we scored maternal co-construction in terms of skills that promote secure base script knowledge. Both tasks were related to maternal AAI coherence and attachment script knowledge. In addition, studies showed that maternal co-construction skills make unique contributions to both child secure base behvior and child script knowledge. Findings support the hypothesis that mothers' cognitive/verbal co-constructive skills during conversations about attachment and emotion-laden situations play a key role in organization of children's attachment behavior and representations. Finally, we demonstrate that maternal script knowledge not only impacts children's script knowledge (intergenerational transmission), but guides mothers' expectations and judgements of mother-child interactions. Throughout this monograph, we stress the importance of an interpersonal approach when investigating attachment relationships during early childhood, where mother-child interactions and communication about attachment-related issues are considered key to unveil co-constructive processes involved in the child's behavioral and cognitive organization of attachment relationships.
