We invite you to journey with us as we explore all the dimensions of forgiveness, learning how to apply this gift to yourself and your life, as well as using it to guide others toward a happier, more peaceful existence."
--from the Introduction
Everyone seeks forgiveness at some point in their lives--in families, from friends, in workplaces, in communities or from ourselves--but we often falter when we discover the practice takes more than simply saying or hearing "I forgive you."
In this dynamic look at the process of forgiveness, conflict resolution experts Myra Warren Isenhart and Michael Spangle look at what is really keeping you from forgiving or seeking forgiveness. In addition to focusing on the soulful benefits of forgiveness, they also draw on insights from many fields--communication, psychology, counseling and theology, as well as their own original research--to explore the mental and emotional barriers in your path.
Learn how to:
Make distinctions between forgiveness, apology and reconciliation
Identify the conditions that make reconciliation appropriate or inappropriate
Understand the elements of an effective apology
Extend forgiveness to yourself
Assist others in their own forgiveness journey
Автор: Todd Zakrajsek, Donna Bailey Название: Understanding How We Learn: Applying Key Educational Psychology Concepts in the Classroom ISBN: 1620366207 ISBN-13(EAN): 9781620366202 Издательство: Mare Nostrum (Eurospan) Рейтинг: Цена: 192190.00 T Наличие на складе: Невозможна поставка. Описание: This succinct, jargon-free, and user-friendly volume offers faculty an introduction to 35 concepts from educational psychology that illuminate what’s going through the minds of learners as they grapple with new information.
The concepts are conveniently grouped under major topics, each introduced by a summary of the field, its origins, the latest relevant research, and the implications for teaching: Cognition and Thinking, Memory, Learning, Perceiving and Living in the World, Working in Groups, Motivation, and Perceptions of Self.
Within each section Todd Zakrajsek and Donna Bailey provide summaries of each key concept, explaining the terminology, its background, relevance to student learning, and offering ideas and tips for immediate application in teaching.
As an example, the entry on Cognitive Load – the amount of information that the brain can process at any given time, and beyond which further input becomes hard to process, and usually induces errors – explains its constituent elements, intrinsic, extraneous, and germane, and how they are triggered. The authors conclude with specific tips to reduce cognitive load, and strategies to help students encountering difficulties with complex new material understand and accept the need to budget energy and time for certain tasks.
This is an illuminating book for teachers seeking to understand student learning, offering a foundational understanding of educational terms often tossed about in discussions of student learning, and a range of solutions to challenges they commonly encounter in the classroom.

Название: Leaders in Critical Pedagogy: Narratives for Understanding and Solidarity ISBN: 9463001646 ISBN-13(EAN): 9789463001649 Издательство: Brill Рейтинг: Цена: 51800.00 T Наличие на складе: Невозможна поставка. Описание: "A delightful read illuminating the history and thoughts of critical pedagogy. " - Australian Universities’ Review (2016) Critical pedagogy has variously inspired, mobilized, troubled, and frustrated teachers, activists, and educational scholars for several decades now. Since its inception the field has been animated by internal antagonism and conflict, and this reality has simultaneously spread the influence of the field in and out of education and seriously challenged its status as an integral body of work. The various debates that have categorized critical pedagogy have also made it difficult for younger scholars to enter into the literature. This is the first book to survey critical pedagogy through first-hand accounts of its established and emerging leaders. While the book does indeed provide a historical exploration and documentation of the development of critical pedagogy as a contested and dynamic educational intervention—as well as analyses of that development and directions toward possible futures—it is also intended to provide an accessible and comprehensive entry point for a new generation of activists, organizers, scholars, and educators who place questions of pedagogy and social justice at the heart of their thinking and doing.

Описание: From academisation and free schools to workforce retention and curriculum change, education policy is a complicated, constantly evolving topic that sits at the heart of any academic study of education.
This book offers a critical contextual analysis of education policy and the political ideas that drive policy. It maps a careful journey across the recent policy landscape in England looking at major areas of the education system such as: the curriculum, SEND, pedagogy and the school workforce. Analysis is informed by assessing the real-world impact and implications of government initiatives and by taking into account key contextual issues. Case studies from educational settings, supported by study questions to prompt your thinking, examine how key policy ideas operate in practice.
This is the ideal overview of education policy for anyone studying Education Studies degrees at undergraduate level, trainee teachers seeking a deeper understanding of how policy affects the schools they will work in, and Master’s students wanting a clear primer on the subject.
Chris Rolph is Director of the Nottingham Institute of Education, Nottingham Trent University.
Over the past few decades universities have opened their doors to students whose parents and grandparents were historically excluded from societal participation and higher education for reasons associated with racial, ethnic, socio-economic and/or linguistic diversity. Many of these students are first generation - or first in their family to attend university. While some progress has been made in responding to the needs of these internationally underserved learners, many challenges remain.
This edited book features the unique and diverse experiences of first generation students as they transition into and engage with higher education whilst exploring ways in which universities might better serve these students. With reference to culturally responsive and sustaining research methodologies undertaken in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK and the USA, the contributors critically examine how these students demonstrate resilience within university, and ways in which success and challenges are articulated. Elements that are unique to context and shared across the international higher education milieu are explored. The book is replete with diverse student voices, and compelling implications for practice and future research.
The studies featured are centred on underlying theories of identity and intersectionality while valuing student voices and experiences. Throughout, the emphasis is on using strengths-based indigenous and decolonised methodologies. Through these culturally sustaining approaches, which include critical incident technique, participatory learning and action, talanoa and narrative inquiry, the book explores rich data on first generation student experiences at seven institutions in six countries across four continents.
