From debut author Cameron Kelly Rosenblum comes a stunning teen novel that tackles love, grief, and mental health as one girl must process her friend's death and ultimately learn how to stand in her own light. Perfect for fans of All the Bright Places and We Were Liars.
It's the summer before senior year. Reid is in the thick of Scofield High's in-crowd thanks to her best friend, Hattie, who has been her social oxygen since middle school.
But summer is when Hattie goes to her family's Maine island home. Instead of sitting inside for eight weeks, waiting for her to return, Reid and their friend, Sam, enter into a pact--to live it up, one party at a time.
But days before Hattie is due home, Reid finds out the shocking news that Hattie has died by suicide. Driven by a desperate need to understand what went wrong, Reid searches for answers.
In doing so, she uncovers painful secrets about the person she thought she knew better than herself. And the truth will force Reid to reexamine everything.

A Choice Magazine "Outstanding Academic Book for 1995"
"Jonathan D. Rosenblum's history of this one strike reveals to us, in chapter and verse, the barbaric use of power by the corporate big boys. It is a stunning metaphor for labor's trouble today."—Studs Terkel (from a review of the first edition)
"Rosenblum writes with the verve of a good journalist and the empirical precision of a fine scholar. He is as deft at sketching brief portraits of key executives, union officials, and rank-and-file strikers as he is at untangling the legal skein in which the miners got fatally ensnared."—Michael Kazin, New York Times Book Review (from a review of the first edition)
In this new edition, Jonathan D. Rosenblum describes the resurgence in 1996 and 1997 of union activism at Local 890 in Silver City, New Mexico, the famous "Salt of the Earth" union. Phelps Dodge obliterated all the unions at its Arizona properties in the devastating 1983 campaign of permanent replacement documented in Copper Crucible. The company later acquired the Chino mine in western New Mexico; with the copper ore came the elements of union rebirth. When Phelps Dodge officials argued that "while unions may have had a purpose in the past, that time is gone," they rekindled the union's fighting spirit, according to Rosenblum. Local 890 beat back Phelps Dodge's 1996 decertification campaign, handing the company its first major setback against unions in fifteen years.
Fifty more essays from famous writers on their incurable love affair with the Big Apple What do Francine Prose, Suketu Mehta, and Edwidge Danticat have in common? Each suffers from an incurable love affair with the Big Apple, and each contributed to the canon of writing New York has inspired by way of the New York Times City Section, a part of the paper that once defined Sunday afternoon leisure for the denizens of the five boroughs. Former City Section editor Constance Rosenblum has again culled a diverse cast of voices that brought to vivid life our metropolis through those pages in this follow-up to the publication New York Stories (2005). The fifty essays in More New York Stories unite the city’s best-known writers to provide a window to the bustle and richness of city life. As with the previous collection, many of the contributors need no introduction, among them Kevin Baker, Laura Shaine Cunningham, Dorothy Gallagher, Colin Harrison, Frances Kiernan, Nathaniel Rich, Jonathan Rosen, Christopher Sorrentino, and Robert Sullivan; they are among the most eloquent observers of our urban life. Others are relative newcomers. But all are voices worth listening to, and the result is a comprehensive and entertaining picture of New York in all its many guises. The section on “Characters’’ offers a bouquet of indelible profiles. The section on “Places” takes us on journeys to some of the city’s quintessential locales. “Rituals, Rhythms, and Ruminations” seeks to capture the city’s peculiar texture, and the section called “Excavating the Past” offers slices of the city’s endlessly fascinating history. Delightful for dipping into and a great companion for anyone planning a trip, this collection is both a heart-warming introduction to the human side of New York and a reminder to life-long New Yorkers of the reasons we call the city home.
Land Whisperer A Guide to Partnering Energetically with Any Environment reintroduces readers to the land-human partnership, our oldest partnership on Earth and one many of us have become disconnected from, and clarifies our place within it and responsibility to it. The book presents a pragmatic approach to land healing but is about far more than technique. It's about a way of sensing and communicating with the multidimensional world in which we live for the benefit of all lifeforms. Through concepts, processes, and stories drawn from the author's practice, this guide shows how the land-human partnership is a living, interactive, energetic relationship and how to actually conduct that relationship -- the essence of "whispering."
Most land whispering centers on clearing patterns of disharmony held within the environment, often for long periods, and resetting a fresh energetic baseline that frees the land to attract to it a more balanced set of behaviors and patterns and, in effect, redirect its storyline. Other aspects of the work include conducting soul retrieval for the land in areas devastated by human-caused trauma or natural events. The practice may be done proactively to help avoid creating imbalances, or reactively to redress existing imbalances, many of which developed because no one was aware enough to be proactive in the first place.
This book is valuable not only to people who want to become practitioners, but also to those interested in shamanic healing, co-creative processes, other intuitive arts (such as plant spirit medicine and sacred geometry), energy medicine, esoteric lore, and wisdom traditions. Landscape architects, land managers, property developers, urban designers and planners, realtors, farmers, ranchers, gardeners, and environmentalists may find this guide eye-opening and the practice applicable to their work. Business owners and those responsible for public spaces may find that their land-whispered environments support smoother interactions and greater productivity and, in the case of retail businesses, improved customer relations and sales. Community activists seeking "out of the box" approaches to help mitigate complex social problems such as violence, drug abuse, and displaced populations may find land whispering a promising tool where conventional solutions have been inadequate or failed entirely.
Wendell Berry tells us there are no sacred and unsacred places, only sacred and desecrated places. Land whispering offers a powerful and, for some, life-altering way to partner with Nature to help redress desecration.
