Latin had been more or less the only written language used for scientific purposes, but gradually the vernaculars became established as fully acceptable alternatives for scientific writing. The legendary curator Pontus Hult n (1924-2006) worked at Moderna Museet in Stockholm between 1958 and 1973. In 1960 he was appointed director.
