Автор: MarAlia Librandi, Jamille Pinheiro Dias, Tom Winterbottom Название: Transpoetic Exchange: Haroldo de Campos, Octavio Paz, and Other Multiversal Dialogues ISBN: 1684482178 ISBN-13(EAN): 9781684482177 Издательство: Mare Nostrum (Eurospan) Рейтинг: Цена: 125400.00 T Наличие на складе: Нет в наличии. Описание: Transpoetic Exchange illuminates the poetic interactions between Octavio Paz (1914-1998) and Haroldo de Campos (1929-2003) from three perspectives--comparative, theoretical, and performative. The poem Blanco by Octavio Paz, written when he was Ambassador to India in 1966, and Haroldo de Campos' translation (or what he calls a 'transcreation') of that poem, published as Transblanco in 1986, as well as Campos' GalÁxias, written from 1963 to 1976, are the main axes around which the book is organized.
The volume is divided into three parts. 'Essays' unites seven texts by renowned scholars who focus on the relationship between the two authors, their impact and influence, and their cultural resonance by exploring explore the historical background and the different stylistic and cultural influences on the authors, ranging from Latin America and Europe to India and the U.S. The second section, 'Remembrances,' collects four experiences of interaction with Haroldo de Campos in the process of transcreating Paz's poem and working on Transblanco and GalÁxias. In the last section, 'Poems,' five poets of international standing--Jerome Rothenberg, Antonio Cicero, Keijiro Suga, AndrÉ Vallias, and Charles Bernstein--share their creations that demonstrate influence by and dialogue with the work of Paz and de Campos.
Paz and Campos, one from Mexico and the other from Brazil, were central figures in the literary history of the second half of the 20th century, in Latin America and beyond. Both poets signal the direction of poetry as that of translation, understood as the embodiment of otherness and of a poetic tradition that every new poem brings back as a Babel re-enacted.
This volume is a print corollary to and expansion of an international colloquium and poetic performance held at Stanford University in January 2010 and it offers a discussion of the role of poetry and translation from a global perspective. The collection holds great value for those interested in all aspects of literary translation and it enriches the ongoing debates on language, modernity, translation and the nature of the poetic object.

No overall history of the philosophical dialogue has appeared since Rudolf Hirzel's two-volume study was published in 1895. In The Philosophical Dialogue: A Poetics and a Hermeneutics, Vittorio H?sle covers the development of the genre from its beginning with Plato to the late twentieth-century work of Iris Murdoch and Paul Feyerabend. H?sle presents a taxonomy and a doctrine of categories for the complex literary genre of the philosophical dialogue, focusing on the poetical laws that structure the genre, and develops hermeneutical rules for its correct interpretation.
Following an introduction that employs the categories of subjectivity and intersubjectivity to classify philosophy's modes of expression, H?sle's book is structured by the classical triad of the production, inner structure, and reception of the literary dialogue. To explain what is meant by "philosophical dialogue," H?sle first deals with the specific traits of philosophical dialogue in contrast to other literary forms of philosophy and its special status among them. Second, he distinguishes the philosophical dialogue as a literary genre from actual philosophical conversation, and as a philosophical literary genre from nonphilosophical literary dialogues. Finally, he takes up the connection between literary form and philosophical content in the philosophical dialogue. Numerous authors of dialogues are discussed, with a special focus on Plato, Cicero, Augustine, Hume, and Diderot.
Originally published in Germany as Der philosophische Dialog: Eine Poetik und Hermeneutik (2006), this book not only contributes to the philosophical discussion of dialogue but to a great extent defines it. This fine translation will prove useful to both philosophers and literary critics in the English-speaking world.

Автор: Matt Cohen Название: Silence of the Miskito Prince: How Cultural Dialogue Was Colonized ISBN: 1517913942 ISBN-13(EAN): 9781517913946 Издательство: Mare Nostrum (Eurospan) Рейтинг: Цена: 83600.00 T Наличие на складе: Нет в наличии. Описание: Confronting the rifts created by our common conceptual vocabulary for North American colonial studies How can we tell colonial histories in ways that invite intercultural conversation within humanistic fields that are themselves products of colonial domination? Beginning with a famous episode of failed communication from the narrative of the freed slave Olaudah Equiano, The Silence of the Miskito Prince explores this question by looking critically at five concepts frequently used to imagine solutions to the challenges of cross-cultural communication: understanding, cosmopolitanism, piety, reciprocity, and patience. Focusing on the first two centuries of North American colonization, Matt Cohen traces how these five concepts of cross-cultural relations emerged from, and continue to evolve within, colonial dynamics. Through a series of revealing archival explorations, he argues the need for a new vocabulary for the analysis of past interactions drawn from the intellectual and spiritual domains of the colonized, and for a historiographical practice oriented less toward the illusion of complete understanding and scholarly authority and more toward the beliefs and experiences of descendant communities. The Silence of the Miskito Prince argues for new ways of framing scholarly conversations that use past interactions as a site for thinking about intercultural relations today. By investigating the colonial histories of these terms that were assumed to promote inclusion, Cohen offers both a reflection on how we got here and a model of scholarly humility that holds us to our better or worse pasts.
Автор: Scott Thomas Prather Название: Christ, Power and Mammon: Karl Barth and John Howard Yoder in Dialogue ISBN: 056714691X ISBN-13(EAN): 9780567146915 Издательство: Bloomsbury Academic Рейтинг: Цена: 158400.00 T Наличие на складе: Есть у поставщика Поставка под заказ. Описание:
This book examines the role of the New Testament concept of the 'principalities and powers' in the thought of Karl Barth and John Howard Yoder, showing how this biblical concept of power is central to the fundamental theological convictions of each thinker.
Prather offers a scholarly account of the underexplored theological and ethical import of a major biblical theme and the book addresses questions and concerns from a wide range of academic and lay theological interest. He brings Barth and Yoder into dialogue here and examines the three crucial areas: the 'confessional' distinction of church and world; the demonization of political power; and the intrinsic relation between the political and economic powers.
While other theologians have rightly identified a 'christocentric' connection between the thought of Barth and Yoder, no attempt has been made to bring them together through the sustained analysis of a single doctrinal or ethical issue - this book does just that.
