This book focuses on the representation of the Gaeltacht in the Irish press. It examines texts from a key moment in the history of Irish journalism, namely the decade between the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth (1895?1905). Newspapers and periodicals have often been discussed with a view to their contents, or else they have served as supporting materials for scholars in Irish history. However, little to no interest has been taken so far in the language of the Irish press and the structure or discursive organisation of its news texts. In an attempt to contribute to filling this gap, this work is intended to carry out a corpus-based and discourse study of Irish news texts. The analysis fields the following general questions: How was the Gaeltacht represented in mainstream newspapers of the time? What aspects of Irish identity does the representation highlight, beyond the vivid description of remote places? In that regard, what are the concurring or competing voices of journalists engaging in the Irish public sphere? How do such voices actively shape news discourse in order to argue distinctive visions of Ireland?
The main theme and objective of this book is the evolution of the Irish attitude towards Poland and the Poles during the first half of the nineteenth century. The book explores advanced Irish-Polish relations, emphasising the place of the Polish Question in the process of shaping modern Irish nationalism, and how from a distant, nearly exotic, country before the end of the eighteenth century, Poland became a source of parallels for the Irish nationalists. Using statistical and geographical analyses, the book goes on to show how the Polish revolution led to the ultimate foundation of the Irish-Polish advanced relations and the role of Poland in the process of shaping modern Irish nationalism.

The celebratory and homogenizing discourse associated with the international success of some Irish musical forms is not reflected in the opinions of the people interviewed by O'Flynn; at the same time, an insider/outsider dialectic of national identity is found in various forms of discourse about Irish music. Although its practices in Spain have been studied in terms of assessment, language learning and content, research on students‘ and teachers‘ motivation in CLIL has been scarce. Taking into consideration that teaching and learning are social practices, it seems necessary to consider the affective factors such as motivation and perceptions which may come into play in CLIL practices. This book studies the perceptions and motivation regarding CLIL in three groups of CLIL physics and chemistry students and their CLIL teacher in a plurilingual high school located in Galicia.

Using this article as a lens, Underhill returns to Schulz's literary texts with fresh eyes and reads them as direct expressions of his engagement with the Jewish questions of his day. The result is a unique textual encounter that opens a range of entry points into the complex Jewish world of Habsburg Galicia. Underhill shows Schulz as a confirmed modernist and affirmed diasporist even when this world was collapsing around him.
