Based on an average of a VLCD (very low-calorie diet) of 60 to 80 grams of carbohydrates and 800 to 1,000 calories, renal diet is prepared it is specific food lists. The kidney diet provides a list of foods to be avoided and foods to be ingested at specific periods. The best part of the kidney diet is that there are not too many rules to follow and people can eat however they want. The food is prescribed in smaller portions daily.

Renal diet is an effective food plan for high-risk patients who need to slow the progression of their kidney diseases. The patient must eat three times a day. The recommended foods include low-fat proteins such as chicken, turkey, fish, egg whites, and cottage cheese. The proteins in these foods are not concentrated mainly in the organs- they are the lean skeletal parts of the animals. The diet plans are created in such a way that no one should feel hungry.
