Описание: Leap into Action asks: What happens when performative arts meet pedagogy? and views performative teaching as building students’ understanding of complex ideas and concepts through action. It provides the theoretical, philosophical, and conceptual terrain by setting forth the scholarly rationale as to what performative pedagogy is at this moment across Art & Design education. Contributions are made from individuals and groups across art and design disciplines who deploy innovative pedagogic approaches with an emphasis on performativity. To underline that Art & Design does not only happen within the institution, Leap into Action provides rich intertextual material that draws upon the experiences of practitioners. Leap into Action is intended to prompt new angles from which to examine one’s practice including and beyond pedagogy, mainly in terms of art, design and performance, and disciplines?further afield. Whilst Leap into Action engages with performative pedagogies through disruptions, interruptions, tricksters, liminalities, affective bodies, sensory encounters, and technoparticipation, it calls into question what risk-taking means in an arts school context and the tension (even paradox) that exists between wanting to create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment and provoking students out of their comfort zones through experimental performative pedagogy and playfulness. Whilst engagement with performative strategies may be a ‘risky’ strategy, the rewards can be great. Enter the unknown, take a leap into action, and have fun.

Описание: This work considers the potential of photographs for orienting in a critical direction the scope, questions and interests of the disciplinary conventions of the field of educational inquiry. Visual objects may help illuminate broader socio-historical events and logics that are deeply entwined with education yet remain marginal to or “outside” of what constitutes its domain of study. In this work photographic images are treated as resources for re-visioning the founding disciplinary objects of educational studies by reorienting its proper objects of study, traditional archives, persistent categories, frames of reference, and accepted portals of research and inquiry. A theoretic framing shapes the question taken up in this work, 'How might an engagement with photo-archives open new horizons in the study of education from a postfoundationalist, multi-theoretic and cross-disciplinary perspective?' The author constructs a rather unconventional vantage point to explore this question that opens on to the discursive spaces of three photographs made of three women in the years 1897, 1949, and 1966. The photographs are analysed from three theoretic approaches. First, it is indicated how each photographic image not only marks a relationship to the past, the present, and the future but to the rules and conventions of photographic practices. These particular images give an account of what both persists and exceeds the photographic image, and permit to rewrite the bodies and lives pictured. Second, the subject matter of each photographic image while singular and local bears witness to the complex network of racial, patriarchal and colonial logics and their profound imbrication with a 'technically mediated inscription.' For all their singularity the photographs cannot but evoke their relation to the deeply historical character of photography. Finally, the photographs make possible an account of broader occurrences, subterranean histories, contexts, and differently situated experiences that illuminate, much like the principle of montage, a sequence of overlapping events crosscutting with one another consequently throwing open the possibility of responding to and transforming the histories and archives we are given.

Pedagogy is often glossed as the 'art and science of teaching' but this focus typically ties it to the instructional practices of formalised schooling. Описание: Young children’s access to knowledge about gender, relationships, and sexuality has critical implications for their health and well-being, not only in their early years but throughout their lives. This knowledge can build children’s competencies and resilience, contributing to new cultural norms of non-violence in gendered and sexual relationships. For many early childhood teachers, interacting with children about issues concerning gender and sexuality is fraught with feelings of uneasiness and anxiety. The pedagogical project discussed in Disrupting Gendered Pedagogies in the Early Childhood Classroom examines the tensions associated with one teacher’s attempts to rethink gendered narratives and childhood sexuality in her own classroom. This project illustrates that it is possible for early childhood teachers to use feminist poststructuralism and queer theory to deepen their understandings and responses to children’s talk, actions, and play regarding sex, gender, and sexuality and to use these understandings to inform their professional practice.
