The history of these growths showed that they were, as a rule, benign in character, and did not tend to recurrences or malignancy. Probably these tissue remnants were of the same types as the cartilage, trachea. Salivar glands, brain cells, etc., which were so frequently found in examining dermoid cysts of the ovary.

I wish to demonstrate to the members of the Society two early cases of ectopic pregnancy which are of interest chiefly because of the fact that neither specimen was over two months, and that they show an unusually interesting series of lesions in the walls of the tubes and the vessels.

The attempts to discover the cause of malarial disease are of considerable historical interest. From earliest times the existence of a contagium vivum has been generally assumed, by reason of the peculiar clinical features of the disease itself. Up to 1879 most of the hypotheses that were offered assumed that some one of the fresh-water alga was the exciting cause.l These observations were never confirmed, and obtained but little belief.

The specimen was removed from a man who had suffered for a number of years from pulmonary phthisis. III the small intes tine there were several small tubercular ulcers, while the colon presented a number of ulcers with irregular margins and smooth bases. Microscopical examination of these ulcers showed some remnants of tubercular disease, but their bases were covered with new connective tissue. It was certainly rare to find a case in which tubercular ulcers of the intestines were healing.

Liver shows distension of portal veins and occasional areas of fatty infiltration. The portal canals are often much thickened and infiltrated with round cells, especially about the portal veins.

Kidneys: There is well marked arteritis of the interlobular arteries; a few glomeruli are atrophied, but most of them are normal. The tubule cells are slightly degenerated.

The salient points in the clinical history were as follows The patient first noticed a small lump in the neck when he was twenty-two years of age; for the next two years this grew rapidly, and then for thirteen years remained quiescent; that is, up to the time of his death._ The tumor had never caused any pain or discomfort. Before his death the diagnosis of calcified tuberculous glands was made, the mass being a little too high to be considered a cystic or calcified lobe of the thy; roid.
