Описание: Uses modern mathematical tools - algebraic geometry, algebraic combinatorics, and representation theory, among others - to analyse two-dimensional wave patterns. The author`s goal is to explain some details of the classification problem of the soliton solutions of the KP equation (or KP solitons) and their applications to shallow water waves.

Описание: An introduction to integrable and non-integrable scalar field models, with topological and non-topological soliton solutions. Focusing on both topological and non-topological solitons, this book brings together discussion of solitary waves and construction of soliton solutions and provides a discussion of solitons using simple model examples.

Описание: In the third edition the presentation of new topics has been deliberately kept simple for pedagogical purposes. Chapter 1 was completed by references to the tidal bore and magnetic envelope solitons. Two new sections devoted to magnetic envelope solitons and signal processing with solitons have been added to Chap. 4. Short comments on models describing blood-pressure pulse propagation in terms of solitons were added to chapter 5. A description of a new mechanical transmission line with two equilibrium states has been included in Chap. 6. Such an analog device is useful to illustrate the properties of kink-solitons and to observe solitary waves with a compact shape, called compactons. New references conceming recent advances in experimental techniques and lattice effects were added to Chap. 7. In Chap. 8 a short introduction to spatial optical solitons in continuous and discrete systems was included. Chapter 9 was completed by new sections devoted to nonlinear lattice models and energy localization. The concepts of self-trapped states and intrinsic localized modes or discrete breathers are dicussed. Different analog chains which make it possible to observe the characteristic features of discrete breathers, are described. Contrary to previous chapters where we have considered reversible or conservative systems where solitons can exist owing to the dynamical balance between linear dispersion and nonlinearity, Chapter 11 which is a new chapter, is devoted to irreversible systems where nonlinearity can balance the effects of dissipation leading to "diffusing solitary waves" or "diffusive solitons."

Stability of Line Solitons for the KP-II Equation in R²

Автор: Tetsu Mizumachi
Название: Stability of Line Solitons for the KP-II Equation in R²

Описание: The author proves nonlinear stability of line soliton solutions of the KP-II equation with respect to transverse perturbations that are exponentially localized as y??. He finds that the amplitude of the line soliton converges to that of the line soliton at initial time whereas jumps of the local phase shift of the crest propagate in a finite speed toward y=+/-?.

Dissipative Solitons: From Optics to Biology and Medicine

Описание: The dissipative soliton concept is a fundamental extension of the concept of solitons in conservative and integrable systems. It includes ideas from three major sources, namely standard soliton theory developed since the 1960s; These three sources also correspond to the three component parts of this novel paradigm.

Eric T. Bell O. Heaviside Mathematicsis a tool for thought. A highly necessary tool in a world where both feedback and non- linearities abound. Similarly, all kinds of parts of mathematics seIVe as tools for other parts and for other sciences. Applying a simple rewriting rule to the quote on the right above one finds such statements as: 'One seIVice topology has rendered mathematical physics ...'; 'One service logic has rendered com- puter science ...'; 'One service category theory has rendered mathematics ...'. All arguably true. And all statements obtainable this way form part of the raison d'etre of this series.
