Описание: This is a semi-popular mathematics book aimed at a broad readership of mathematically literate scientists, especially mathematicians and physicists who are not experts in classical mechanics or KAM theory, and scientific-minded readers. Parts of the book should also appeal to less mathematically trained readers with an interest in the history or philosophy of science. The scope of the book is broad: it not only describes KAM theory in some detail, but also presents its historical context (thus showing why it was a "breakthrough"). Also discussed are applications of KAM theory (especially to celestial mechanics and statistical mechanics) and the parts of mathematics and physics in which KAM theory resides (dynamical systems, classical mechanics, and Hamiltonian perturbation theory).Although a number of sources on KAM theory are now available for experts, this book attempts to fill a long-standing gap at a more descriptive level. It stands out very clearly from existing publications on KAM theory because it leads the reader through an accessible account of the theory and places it in its proper context in mathematics, physics, and the history of science.

Описание: This book introduces the reader to multiscale mathematical modeling that starts by describing a physical process at the microscopic level, and is followed by the macroscopic description of that process. There are two preliminary chapters introducing the main equations of mathematical physics and serves as revision of all of the necessary mathematical notions needed to navigate the domain of multiscale research. The author gives a rigorous presentation of the tools of mathematical modeling, as well as an evaluation of the errors of the method. This allows readers to analyze the limitations and accuracy of the method. The book is accessible to a wide range of readers, from specialists in engineering to applied mathematicians working in the applications of materials science, biophysics and medicine.
Автор: Enayati Название: The de Sitter (dS) Group and its Representations ISBN: 3031160444 ISBN-13(EAN): 9783031160448 Издательство: Springer Рейтинг: Цена: 37260.00 T Наличие на складе: Поставка под заказ. Описание: This book reviews the construction of elementary systems living in de Sitter (dS) spacetime, in both the classical and quantum senses. Field theories on dS spacetime are among the most studied mathematical models of the Universe, whether for its earlier period (inflationary phase) or for its current phase of expansion acceleration (dark energy or cosmological constant). Classical elementary systems are Hamiltonian phase spaces, which are associated with co-adjoint orbits of the relativity group. On the other hand, quantum elementary systems are associated with (projective) unitary irreducible representations of the (possibly extended) relativity group (or one of its covering). This study emphasizes the conceptual issues arising in the formulation of such systems and discusses known results in a mathematically rigorous way. Particular attention is paid to: “smooth” transition from classical to quantum theory; physical content under vanishing curvature, from the point of view of a local (“tangent”) Minkowskian observer; and thermal interpretation (on the quantum level), in the sense of the Gibbons-Hawking temperature. Such a mathematical construction is of paramount importance to the understanding of the early Universe (due to the critical role that the dS metric plays in the inflationary cosmological scenarii) as well as to the construction of possible models for late-time cosmology (since a small positive cosmological constant or dark energy seems to be required by recent data). In this sense, this book uniquely blends mathematical physics (spacetime symmetry on classical and quantum levels) and theoretical physics (quantization, quantum field theory, and cosmology). Moreover, the level of exposition varies in different parts of the book so that both experts and beginners alike can utilize the book.

Features an authentic and engaging approach to mathematical modeling driven by real-world applications
With a focus on mathematical models based on real and current data, Models for Life: An Introduction to Discrete Mathematical Modeling with Microsoft(R) Office Excel(R) guides readers in the solution of relevant, practical problems by introducing both mathematical and Excel techniques.
The book begins with a step-by-step introduction to discrete dynamical systems, which are mathematical models that describe how a quantity changes from one point in time to the next. Readers are taken through the process, language, and notation required for the construction of such models as well as their implementation in Excel. The book examines single-compartment models in contexts such as population growth, personal finance, and body weight and provides an introduction to more advanced, multi-compartment models via applications in many areas, including military combat, infectious disease epidemics, and ranking methods. Models for Life: An Introduction to Discrete Mathematical Modeling with Microsoft(R) Office Excel(R) also features:
A modular organization that, after the first chapter, allows readers to explore chapters in any order
Numerous practical examples and exercises that enable readers to personalize the presented models by using their own data
Carefully selected real-world applications that motivate the mathematical material such as predicting blood alcohol concentration, ranking sports teams, and tracking credit card debt
References throughout the book to disciplinary research on which the presented models and model parameters are based in order to provide authenticity and resources for further study
Relevant Excel concepts with step-by-step guidance, including screenshots to help readers better understand the presented material
Both mathematical and graphical techniques for understanding concepts such as equilibrium values, fixed points, disease endemicity, maximum sustainable yield, and a drug's therapeutic window
A companion website that includes the referenced Excel spreadsheets, select solutions to homework problems, and an instructor's manual with solutions to all homework problems, project ideas, and a test bank
The book is ideal for undergraduate non-mathematics majors enrolled in mathematics or quantitative reasoning courses such as introductory mathematical modeling, applications of mathematics, survey of mathematics, discrete mathematical modeling, and mathematics for liberal arts. The book is also an appropriate supplement and project source for honors and/or independent study courses in mathematical modeling and mathematical biology.
