British representations of Spain and Portugal have often relied on persistent ideological biases, prejudices, and interpretations. This volume aims to offer a broader, more nuanced outlook on the last five hundred years of Anglo-Iberian relations. The chapters focus on relatively little-known episodes and figures in Anglo-Iberian history and cover a wide temporal span: from the sixteenth to the mid-twentieth century. They aim to look beyond the clich?d dichotomies, received ideas, and normative voices that have often charac-terised mainstream studies. Ultimately, the book seeks to expose and transcend stereotyped narratives emphasising Anglo-Spanish acrimony and contribute to mutual understanding.
The book explores finite and nonfinite clausal verb complementation in World Englishes. It provides an assessment of the influence of language contact, simplicity and transparency, geographical proximity, and evolutionary phase on this alternation. On the one hand, a quantitative analysis of GloWbE data through different statistical tests proves the effects of these factors on the choice between finite that-clauses and nonfinite -ing clauses. A number of intra-linguistic factors are also considered as potential explanatory factors. On the other hand, a detailed, manual, qualitative analysis results in the discovery of a series of new verb complementation structures available in English varieties around the world.
While there is research on self-regulation in early childhood and its relation to language development, there is a paucity of research that exists centering on selfregulatory skills and young Latinx learners. This book’s originality and contribution to the field are based on the unique focus on developing executive functioning skills related to Latinxs. There are no books in the field that have solely discussed both cognitive and impulse control in Dual Language Learner Latinx preschool students. This book can be used in early childhood courses, bilingual educational courses, child development courses, and psychology courses.

Автор: Raquel Veiga Busto Название: Person and Number: An Empirical Study of Catalan Sign Language Pronouns ISBN: 3110999668 ISBN-13(EAN): 9783110999662 Издательство: Walter de Gruyter Рейтинг: Цена: 167300.00 T Наличие на складе: Есть у поставщика Поставка под заказ. Описание: Person and number are two basic grammatical categories. However, they have not yet been exhaustively documented in many sign languages. This volume presents a thorough description of the form and interpretation of person and number in Catalan Sign Language (LSC) personal pronouns. This is the first book exploring together the two categories (and their interaction) in a sign language. Building on a combination of elicitation methods and corpus data analysis, this book shows that person and number are encoded through a set of distinctive phonological features: person is formally marked through spatial features, and number by the path specifications of the sign. Additionally, this study provides evidence that the same number marker might have a different semantic import depending on the person features with which it is combined. Results of this investigation contribute fresh data to cross-linguistic studies on person and number, which are largely based on evidence from spoken language only. Furthermore, while this research identifies a number of significant differences with respect to prior descriptions of person and number in other sign languages, it also demonstrates that, from a typological standpoint, the array of distinctions that LSC draws within each category is not exceptional.
