Meant to be read alongside Friedrich Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra, these notes by famous British polyglot and Nietzsche student Anthony Mario Ludovici are perhaps the most incisive and penetrating analyses of the German philosopher's famous work ever committed to text. Ludovici, a talented author and philosopher in his own right, was completely fluent in German, and studied Nietzsche's works in their original German, and translated many of his major writings into English. There were therefore few, if any, English-speaking intelligentsia as familiar with Nietzsche's works as Ludovici. In this work, Ludovici provides a section-by-section analysis of Thus Spoke Zarathustra, providing along the way not only his interpretation in the light of his extensive knowledge of Nietzsche's other writings, but also many helpful facts and explanations of obscure (to the English reader) references made in the text. Ludovici's main purpose in preparing these notes was however to provide readers with a guide to understanding Nietzsche's works. As he wrote in the introduction: "I have had some opportunities of studying the conditions under which Nietzsche is read in Germany, France, and England, and I have found that, in each of these countries, students of his philosophy, as if actuated by precisely similar motives and desires, and misled by the same mistaken tactics on the part of most publishers, all proceed in the same happy-go-lucky style when 'taking him up.' "Thus Spoke Zarathustra is taken home; the reader, who perchance may know no more concerning Nietzsche than a magazine article has told him, tries to read it and, understanding less than half he reads, probably never gets further than the second or third part..." "Now, it is with the view of giving a little additional help to all those who find themselves in this position that I proceed to put forth my own personal interpretation of the more abstruse passages in this work. It represents an attempt on my part to give the reader help in surmounting difficulties which a long study of Nietzsche's life and works has enabled me, partially I hope, to overcome." This new edition also contains a short biography of Ludovici's life. Anthony Mario Ludovici (1882-1971) was born in London, England. Educated privately, his high intelligence allowed him to become fluent in several languages, and he was a leading philosopher, sociologist, and author. His topics included art, metaphysics, politics, economics, religion, the differences between the sexes, race, and eugenics. In addition, Ludovici was a talented artist, and gained employment as a painter and book illustrator. Eventually he wrote full-time, producing over 40 books and translating 60 others.

It advocates for governing alone or not at all, opening up the election of the parliamentary leader to party members as well as caucus, and support for the carbon tax. Описание: The Untimely Meditations comprises of four essays, which are presented here in the high-quality translations of Anthony Ludovici and Adrian Collins. These early writings by Nietzsche displays much of the promise which was to unfurl later in the philosopher's life. These four essays, all different in subject and tone yet tangentially related, are also known by the title Thoughts Out of Season, and were originally published in two parts between 1873 and 1876. In each essay, Nietzsche examines aspects of modern culture and art. In the first, third and final essays he singles out a single personage as representative or influential upon of the present day, subjecting each to a philosophic critique. The first two essays are openly polemical and critical, whilst the final two offer a non-hostile and complimenting tone, with parts praising their subjects.

From the Author, who gave the lectures presented in this book on Nietzsche in 1908: "I am going to speak to you of Friedrich Nietzsche-the Immoralist. A philosopher more difficult to understand, and yet more full of riches for those who do understand him, it would be hard to find.
Why should I wish to speak to you of Nietzsche? The literature which has grown round his name and philosophy is already enormous. If you have read a third of it, you are already informed concerning him.
Nietzsche died but eight years ago, and he is now one of the most striking figures of modern European philosophy. It is with the deepest regret, however, that the inquirer into his life and works, gradually realises how completely and often maliciously, he has been misinterpreted and misjudged;-not only by ignorant commentators and by many of those learned professors who have been lured to the exposition of his works by the latter's inherent fascination, but even by his best and oldest friends as well. That is why I wish to speak to you of Friedrich Nietzsche: because he has been misrepresented, and it were well for you to know him as he is;-indeed, it is a pressing necessity that you should know him as he is."

From the Author: "Some deny his Nietzsche's] right to the title "philosopher"; others declare him to be a mere anarchist; and a large number regard all his later works as no more than a shallow though brilliant reversal of every accepted doctrine on earth."
