Описание: Die Pflanzenfotografien Karl Blossfeldts (1865-1932) sind heute weltberuhmt. Unbekannt hingegen ist, dass ihre Entstehung einen Teil der Geschichte des Berliner Kunstgewerbemuseums bildet: Nicht als freie Kunstfotografien fertigte Blossfeldt seine Aufnahmen, sondern als Elemente einer Lehrmittelsammlung. Mit dieser ruckte Moritz Meurer (1839-1916) in den 1890er Jahren das Pflanzenstudium an der dem Museum angeschlossenen Kunstgewerbeschule in den Fokus.
Anhand von Modellen, Herbarien, Lehrtafeln und Fotografien sollten die Gesetze naturlicher Formbildung durchdrungen und die Gestaltungslehre erneuert werden. Katalog und Ausstellung fuhren die Lehrmittel erstmals als Ensemble zusammen und veranschaulichen deren eindruckliche formalasthetische wie mediale Vielfalt. Gezeigt werden sie im Kontext von prachtvollen Ornament- und Vorlagengrafiken, Objekten des Jugendstils und Bildwelten der zeitgenoessischen Botanik.
Die Frage nach der Beschaftigung mit der Natur in Gestaltungslehre und Design ist weiterhin aktuell. Mit zeichnerischen und filmischen Beitragen von Studierenden der Universitat der Kunste Berlin, der Nachfolgerin der einstigen Lehranstalt, wird zum 150. Jubilaum des Kunstgewerbemuseums die Tradition studentischer Ausstellungen wiederbelebt.

‘Ordering the World’ – a slogan originally employed by Chinese government reformers in the eighteenth century – addresses ideas and practices within the administrative field in Asia and Europe.
