Highlights:

Standard deduction has almost doubled for all filers, but personal exemptions have been eliminated.

Single or married taxpayers are not allowed to deduct more than $10,000 of property taxes and state and local income or sales taxes. Some states are considering repealing their income taxes and replacing them with employer-side payroll taxes. Taxes imposed on a business (such as employer payroll taxes) are still deductible under federal law. A business can just write them off their corporate income tax (or individual tax, if the business is a pass-through entity). This would not only totally offset the new limit on deducting state income taxes - it would amount to a sizable tax cut for many middle-class families. Other kinds of income like capital gains, interest, and dividends aren't hit by payroll taxes. Some states will likely pair the payroll tax shift with a new tax on capital income (similar to how Tennessee and New Hampshire tax interest and dividend income). Some states will join them, perhaps adding capital gains. I predict California, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Hawaii will implement this in 2018, followed closely by Maryland and Massachusetts.

Small Business Owners, Freelancers and Contract Workers (Gig Workers) The new law changes the way "pass-through" entities (which pass profits directly to their owners as personal income) are treated in the tax code. Now many will be able to deduct 20 percent of their revenue from their taxable income (20 percent off their taxable earnings).

Alternative Minimum Tax Raises the amount of income that would be exempt from AMT. For singles the exemption level will increase to $70,300, and $109,400 for married couples.

Home Mortgage Interest Deduction. If you take out a new mortgage you will only be allowed to deduct the interest on debt up to $750,000.

Child Care Credit - doubled the current child tax credit from $1,000 to $2,000 per child under age 17.

No Miscellaneous Itemized Deductions.

Moving Expenses - You will no longer be able to deduct moving expenses related to a job change.

Alimony Payments will no longer be deductible expense for divorce after 2017. The party receiving the payments would no longer need to pay tax on the income received.

This was used to teach KGB students how capitalist counterintelligence agencies would try to set-up KGB agents by "dangling" an offer of valuable intelligence either to insert a western agent into the KGB intelligence network, or to uncover KGB agents and "frame" them.

We are printing this English translation so that the general public can see first hand how the KGB operated and extrapolate their actions to today's environment. We have no way of verifying if the examples contained herein were in fact, actual events or whether this entire document is merely disinformation. That said, it is important to remember a quote attributed to Vladimir Putin, "There are no former KGB agents."

We should not be surprised when we see "fake news" and other propaganda that is presented as "truth".

Recently it was announced that China's PLA Navy now has more ships (300) than the U.S. Navy (287). This book covers the bulk of Beijing's Navy including destroyers, frigates, and corvettes. These categories have seen more growth since 2005 than any other. The rapid growth of ships in these categories is in keeping with the Military Strategy China released in 2015 which states, "... the PLA Navy (PLAN) will gradually shift its focus from "offshore waters defense" to the combination of "offshore waters defense" with "open seas protection," and build a combined, multi-functional and efficient marine combat force structure." The launching of new ships is in addition to retiring very old ships (pre-1990) and modernizing ships built after that.
U.S. Navy ships are larger, and the U.S. has more aircraft carriers - China has one active, one being fitted out and 2 (or 3) being built. We added China's aircraft carriers tho there is precious little information out there. It does appear that CV-19 will be nuclear powered and include lasers and rail guns as defensive weapons.

Updated in late September to include transport ships (Type 071, 072, 073, 074 and 075). Also added the Type 22 Missile Boat since there are at least 83 of those. Nice littoral area boat, and the sheer numbers could overwhelm an opponent, but not very effective without good air defense. Check out the rail gun mounted on the Type 072III Transport Ship.

In analyses of the design and construction of prestigious governmental projects in Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Ethiopia, Levin details how architects, planners, and a trade union--owned construction company staged Israel as a new center of nonaligned expertise. These actors and professionals paradoxically capitalized on their settler colonial experience in Palestine, refashioning it as an alternative to Western colonial expertise. Levin traces how Israel became involved in the modernization of governance, education, and agriculture in Africa, as well as how African leaders chose to work with Israel to forge new South-South connections. In so doing, she offers new ways of understanding the role of architecture as a vehicle of postcolonial development and in the mobilization of development resources.
