Bosia Название: Global Homophobia: States, Movements, and the Politics of Oppression ISBN: 0252037723 ISBN-13(EAN): 9780252037726 Издательство: Wiley EDC Рейтинг: Цена: 104110.00 T Наличие на складе: Невозможна поставка. Описание: While homophobia is commonly characterized as individual and personal prejudice, this collection of essays instead explores homophobia as a transnational political phenomenon. Editors Meredith L. Weiss and Michael J. Bosia theorize homophobia as a distinct configuration of repressive state-sponsored policies and practices with their own causes, explanations, and effects on how sexualities are understood and experienced in a variety of national contexts. The essays cover a broad range of geographic cases, including France, Ecuador, Iran, Lebanon, Poland, Singapore, and the United States.
Combining rich empirical analysis with theoretical synthesis, these studies examine how homophobia travels across complex and ambiguous transnational networks, how it achieves and exerts decisive power, and how it shapes the collective identities and strategies of those groups it targets. The first comparative volume to focus specifically on the global diffusion of homophobia and its implications for an emerging worldwide LGBT movement, Global Homophobia opens new avenues of debate and dialogue for scholars, students, and activists.

Each year, thousands of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) asylum seekers apply for asylum in EU Member States. This book considers the position of LGBTI asylum seekers in European asylum law. Developing an encompassing approach to the topic, the book identifies and analyzes the main legal issues arising in relation to LGBTI people seeking asylum including: the underestimation of the relevance of criminalization of sexual orientation as well as the large scale violence against trans people in countries of origin by some European states; the requirement to seek State protection against violence even when they originate from countries where sexual orientation or gender identity is criminalized, or where the authorities are homophobic; the particular hurdles faced during credibility assessment on account of persisting stereotypes; and queer families and refugee law.
The book gives a state of the art overview of law in Europe, both at the level of European legislation and at the level of Member State practice. While being largely focused on Europe, the book also takes into account asylum decisions from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the United States and is of relevance internationally, offering analysis of issues which are not specific to particular legal systems.

Описание: First published in 1995, Nicola Field's Over the Rainbow confronts the political contradictions in the LGBT+ movement and contains one of the earliest first-hand accounts from the frontlines of Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners, featured in the hit film Pride. Written at a time when LGBT+ people enjoyed increased visibility but faced continued discrimination and assault from conservative governments, Over the Rainbow sets an agenda for resistance rooted in class politics and shatters the myth of a unified LGBT+ 'community'. Including fresh material, this expanded edition considers the impact of Pride and the challenges ahead for LGBT+ activism in the 21st century. Nicola Field, an original member of LGSM, is a London-based writer, artist and activist. She has written for Diva, Socialist Review and Ambit; exhibited at the V&A and the British Film Institute; and spoken on political platforms internationally.
