Most of us love this scripture because we read it as God will give us what we want and overlook the first part of the scripture: "Delight yourself in the Lord." Delight means to "please greatly." Ask yourself, how am I pleasing God in my life?
The promises of God is about acknowledging that God is not Santa Claus, a genie, or a wishing well. He doesn't want to just pop in your life ever so often and give you gifts nor do you rub Him and get three wishes. He does not want you to drop pennies in a bucket and hope real hard. This experience with God is about receiving Him for a lifetime. It is about tapping into the greatest gift and promise of all-eternal life.
