We face a stark reality - nearly 8 billion people living on a planet without the resources needed to ensure a better life for future generations. Transformative Markets is a roadmap for turning the outdated markets of today into powerhouses for driving the innovation of sustainable goods and services that create value for everyone.
In Transformative Markets: Harnessing the Power of Markets for a More Sustainable Future, you will learn:
How executives, policymakers, industry experts, and financiers can use "big data" to understand the dynamics of collaborative efforts of people and organizations across the economy; thereby accelerating the development of markets for sustainable goods and services - such as solar power and clothing made from recycled fabric.
Why "trust" is so important in creating sustainable markets and those that have been identified as the most trusted individuals in creating sustainable markets.
Why the gas-guzzling Hummer SUV of 2005 is being transformed into the Hummer EV of today - an electric powered, zero emission, SUV.
Why we must urgently of escape the trap of "short-termism" and instead accelerate the making of products that generate lasting value for society.
What you, as an individual consumer, can do to create markets for sustainable products.

Описание: Maria Avila presents a personal account of her experience as a teenager working in a factory in Ciudad Juarez to how she got involved in community organizing. She has since applied the its distinctive practices of community organizing to civic engagement in higher education, demonstrating how this can help create a culture that values and rewards civically engaged scholarship and advance higher education's public, democratic mission. Adapting what she learned during her years as an organizer with the Industrial Areas Foundation, she describes a practice that aims for full reciprocity between partners and is achieved through the careful nurturing of relationships, a mutual understanding of personal narratives, leadership building, power analysis, and critical reflection. She demonstrates how she implemented the process in various institutions and in various contexts and shares lessons learned. Community organizing recognizes the need to understand the world as it is in order to create spaces where stakeholders can dialogue and deliberate about strategies for creating the world as we would like it to be. Maria Avila offers a vision and process that can lead to creating institutional change in higher education, in communities surrounding colleges and universities, and in society at large. This book is a narrative of her personal and professional journey and of how she has gone about co-creating spaces where democracy can be enacted and individual, institutional, and community transformation can occur. In inviting us to experience the process of organizing, and in keeping with its values and spirit, she includes the voices of the participants in the initiatives in which she collaborated - stakeholders ranging from community partners to faculty, students, and administrators in higher education.

Описание: This edited volume presents the conference papers from the 1st International Conference on Business, Economics, Management, and Sustainability (BEMAS), organized by the Centre for International Trade and Business in Asia (CITBA) at James Cook University. This book argues that the orthodox methods of external risks, climate change adaptation plans, and sustainable economic growth in cities are no longer adequate. These methods, so far, have not only ignored the ongoing structural changes associated with economic development but also failed to account for evolving industries’ composition and the emergence of new comparative advantages and skills. Specifically, this book looks at the vulnerable communities and exposed areas, particularly in urban areas, that tend to experience higher susceptibility to external risks (such as climate change, natural disasters, and public health emergencies) have been largely ignored in incremental adaptation plans. Vulnerable communities and areas not only require different adaptive responses to climate risk but also possess unlocked adaptive capacity that can motivate different patterns of sustainable development to achieve the goals of the 2030 Agenda. It is essential, therefore, to view transformative growth and fundamental reorientation of economic resources as integral parts of the solution. Social disorganisation and vulnerability are other undesired outcomes of the unpredictable and widespread external economic shocks. This is due to a sudden and tough competition between members of society to acquire precious resources, most of which may be depleted during unprecedented events such as natural disasters or pandemics resulting in an even more chaotic and disorganised conditions.
