Описание: Now in a thoroughly revised 5th Edition, An Introduction to the Policy Process provides students at all levels with an accessible, readable, and affordable introduction to the field of public policy. In keeping with prior editions, author Tom Birkland conveys the best current thinking on the policy process in a clear, conversational style. Designed to address new developments in both policy theory and policy making, the 5th Edition includes examinations of: the Brexit referendum result and its effects on the UK, EU and world politics, as well as the 2016 election of Donald Trump as President of the United States, and the ways in which these events have caused voters and policy makers to rethink their assumptions; changes to the media environment, including the decline of newspapers and television news, the growth of social media, and the emergence of ‘fake news'; new policy theory developments like the emergence of the Narrative Policy Framework (NPF) and continued and newer applications of existing theories of policy process like Advocacy Coalitions, Multiple Streams, Punctuated Equilibrium, and Institutional Analysis and Development; all-new 'What Does the Research Say?' boxes to illustrate concepts outlined in the book, demonstrate the ways in which the material is applicable to a range of policy problems, and encourage students to further study the policy process and substantive policy matters in which they are interested; and all-new and updated chapter ‘at a glance’ outlines, definitions of key terms, provocative review questions, recommended reading, visual aids and case studies, theoretical literature, and PowerPoint slides and Test Banks to make teaching from the book easier than ever. Firmly grounded in both social science and political science, An Introduction to the Policy Process provides the most up-to-date and thorough overview of the theory and practice of the policy process, ideal for upper-level undergraduate and introductory graduate courses in Public Policy, Public Administration, and Political Science programs.

Suitable for both experimentalists and theorists, a wide range of examples and applications are included drawn from all key areas.
Managing today's lands is becoming an increasingly difficult task. Complex ecological interactions across multiple spatiotemporal scales create diverse landscape responses to management actions that are often novel, counter-intuitive and unexpected. To make matters worse, exotic invasions, human land use, and global climate change complicate this complexity and make past observational ecological studies limited in application to the future. Natural resource professionals can no longer rely on empirical data to analyze alternative actions in a world that is rapidly changing with few historical analogs. New tools are needed to synthesize the high complexity in ecosystem dynamics into useful applications for land management.
Some of the best new tools available for this task are ecological and landscape simulation models. However, many land management professionals and scientists have little expertise in simulation modeling, and the costs of training these people will probably be exorbitantly high because most ecosystem and landscape models are exceptionally complicated and difficult to understand and use for local applications.
This book was written to provide natural resource professionals with the rudimentary knowledge needed to properly use ecological models and then to interpret their results. It is based on the lessons learned from a career spent modeling ecological systems. It is intended as a reference for novice modelers to learn how to correctly employ ecosystem landscape models in natural resource management applications and to understand subsequent modeling results.

Описание: ICT and globalization have completely redefined learning and communication. People virtually connect to, collaborate with, and learn from other individuals. Because educational technology has matured considerably since its inception, there are still many issues in the design of learner-centered environments. The Handbook of Research on Ecosystem-Based Theoretical Models of Learning and Communication is an essential reference source that discusses learning and communication ecosystems and the strategic role of trust at different levels of the information and knowledge society. Featuring research on topics such as global society, life-long learning, and nanotechnology, this book is ideally designed for educators, instructional designers, principals, administrators, professionals, researchers, and students.

Описание: Biophysical models, such as Monteith, Prestley-Taylor, and Ball-Berry models, are widely applied in modern ecosystem studies and remote sensing modeling on carbon and water cycles. This monograph is the first comprehensive publication for ecosystem ecologists to grasp a suite of popular models and their applications in terrestrial ecosystem analysis. The text covers popular biophysical models and model comparisons on ecosystem production (GPP, NPP, and NEP), photosynthesis, respiration, evapotranspiration (ET), energy fluxes, and major trace gases. Each chapter includes a brief introduction of the theoretical foundation for modeling, a short description for each model, and synthetic comparisons of the models, and recommendations for model selection. Examples from case studies are also provided for the readers to understand the models and their uses.
