Описание: What drew Coleman Barks to bring his genius to the Gitangili of Rabindranath Tagore? Speaking of these 'Song Offerings', Barks, known and loved for his exquisite transmissions of Rumi, opens us up to the heart of the Indian mystic, Tagore, whose writings have touched poets throughout the world, among them W.B. Yeats, Hart Crane, Robert Frost, and Ezra Pound. In his introduction, Coleman Barks explains what inspired him to recreate the 1913 English translation. 'I am trying to rephrase his insights in language that does not cloud their brilliance. Tagore's mysticism feels very simple and abundant (Yeat's adjective for it), like Wordsworth's like Whitman's - It is into that more current idiom that I am trying to place in Tagore's songs.'
Tagore's Gitanjali(Song Offerings) was first published from Shantiniketan in West Bengal, India in 1912 in Bengali. It contained 157 songs. Later on the English translation, by Tagore himself, of the Bengali book with the same name, with an introduction by W.B. Yeats, was published from India Society, London on 1st Nov 1912. The book contained 103 songs out of which 53 were taken from the Bengali version. Gitanjali in English earned Tagore The Nobel Prize in 1913.

Описание: Rabindranath Tagore FRAS (born Robindronath Thakur, 7 May 1861 - 7 August 1941), sobriquets Gurudev, was a Bengali poet, writer, composer, philosopher and painter from Bengal. He reshaped Bengali literature and music, as well as Indian art with Contextual Modernism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Author of the "profoundly sensitive, fresh and beautiful verse" of Gitanjali, he became in 1913 the first non-European as well as the first lyricist to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. Tagore's poetic songs were viewed as spiritual and mercurial; however, his "elegant prose and magical poetry" remain largely unknown outside Bengal. He is sometimes referred to as "the Bard of Bengal".

Описание: Rabindranath Tagore, an icon of humanism and universalism who always privileged India’s argumentative traditions, remains a source of inspiration for humanity. However, Tagore’s social and political ideas appear to have received inadequate attention presumably because of the hegemonic influence of derivative Western ideas and thoughts. This is where Tagore stands out, not only as a poet but also a visionary who charted a course of action in tune with human betterment, cutting across all kinds of man-made barriers and customary restrictive social, economic and political practices.
Socio-political Thought of Rabindranath Tagore presents a comprehensive and detailed analysis of the socio-political, socio-economic and ideological preference of Tagore, with emphasis on nationalistic, inclusive and gender development ideas. It shows that Tagore’s socio-political ideas continue to remain relevant not merely as a package for intellectual rejuvenation but also as a meaningful device for socio-economic transformation for the world.

The Home and the World (1916) is a novel by Bengali author Rabindranath Tagore. Written after Tagore received the 1913 Nobel Prize in Literature, the novel dramatizes the Swadeshi movement for Indian independence from British rule. Through the lens of one family, Tagore illuminates the conflict between Western culture and Indian nationalism while exploring the complex relationships of men and women in modern India.
Concerned for his wife, who spends most of her days inside, Nikhil, an educated aristocrat, brings Bimala to a political rally. There, they hear the magnanimous revolutionary Sandip speak out against British imperialism and call for Indian independence. Although Nikhil remains passive, if not indifferent, regarding British rule, Bimala, who comes from a poor family, reaches a political awakening of her own. When Nikhil and Bimala invite Sandip to stay as a guest at their home, Bimala moves further away from her traditional role as a wife and begins to develop romantic feelings for the radical figure. Aware of his growing influence, Sandip places himself between Nikhil and his wife while secretly attempting to convince Bimala to use her husband's wealth to support the Swadeshi cause. The Home and the World is a masterful novel that explores the personal behind the political, inserting the lives of individuals into history's great wheel without losing sight of humanity.
With a beautifully designed cover and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of Rabindranath Tagore's The Home and the World is a classic of Indian literature reimagined for modern readers.

Описание: The Gardener, a book of prose. Most of the lyrics of love and life, the translations of which from Bengali are published in this book, were written much earlier than the series of religious poems contained in the book name Gitanjali. The verses in this book are far finer and more genuine than even the best in Gitanjali.

Описание: The poet Kab r is one of the most interesting personalities in the history of Indian mysticism. A great religious reformer, the founder of a sect to which nearly a million northern Hindus still belong, it is yet supremely as a mystical poet that Kab r lives for us. A beautiful legend tells us that after his death his Mohammedan and Hindu disciples disputed the possession of his body; which the Mohammedans wished to bury, the Hindus to burn. As they argued together, Kab r appeared before them.
