Описание: This volume provides an overview of new concepts in neurovascular interventions based on clinical and scientific knowledge of cerebrovascular disorders. It especially focuses on subarachnoid hemorrhage and cerebrovascular malformations, e.g. aneurysms, arterio-venous malformations, and cavernomas. A separate part addresses cerebral revascularization for both complex aneurysms and ischemia. All contributions were written by recognized experts and cover original papers presented at the 7th European Japanese Stroke Surgery Conference, held in Verona, Italy in June 2014. The authors present new trends and strategies for managing emerging problems, as well as in-depth discussions on controversial issues in the field.

Описание: Considerable impetus was given to the study and understanding of cere- brovascular anatomy by Thomas Willis and his contemporaries in the sev,"nteenth century, yet almost two hundred years were to pass before further significant advances were made in this field. Then, from the mid- nineteenth century onwards, the dark ages of cerebrovascular research gradually lifted through the efforts of such workers as Luschka, Heubner, and Windle, whose pioneering anatomical studies formed the basis of the present-day understanding of the morphology of the cerebral circulation. The turn of the century saw an increasing influence of the early neurolo- gists in describing anatomy of cerebral vessels in relation to their areas of distribution and to the production of focal deficits through specific vascu- lar lesions and anomalies. Later still, Padget and others made important observations concerning phylogenetic and developmental aspects of the cerebral circulation. These anatomical and clinical studies were remarkable enough but the real breakthrough in investigating cerebral pathophysiology and in devis- ing appropriate corrective neurosurgical procedures had to await the re- markable advances in technology of the past fifty years. These began with the advent of cerebral angiography with all its subsequent refinements and progress has been accelerated through establishing noninvasive Doppler and high resolution ultrasound imaging techniques, methods for the accu- rate measurement of cerebral blood flow, CT scanning, PET scanning, and, most recently, imaging and metabolic NMR scanning.

Описание: The topic "Cerebrovascular Transport Mechanisms" was chosen by the General Couneil of the International Society of Neuropathology as one of the four main symposia at the IX International Congress of Neuropathology, September 1982 in Vienna. The chairmen of the symposium were asked to structure a program which would cover the reeent devel- opments in this field and which could serve as a background for free communications, relevant to this topic, submitted by the participants of the Congress. Cerebrovascular transport mechanisms refleet the main function of the blood-brain barrier in providing optimaI, homeostatically regulated, biochemical environment for the brain. It is obvious that disturbanees of this function may play a significant role in patho- physiology of various brain disorders. Since the elucidation of the complex blood-brain barrier phenomenon, consisting of various "barrier systems," necessarily requires applica- tion of multidisciplinary approaches, the program of this symposium was structured by evaluation of ultrastructural, cytochemical, physiological, biochemical, pathophysiological and therapeutic aspects of the blood-brain barrier by invited, recognized experts in respec- tive areas. As aresult, this volume of the proceedings of the symposium attempts to summarize much of today's knowledge on cerebrovascular transport mechanisms in health and disease, and is supplemented by the abstracts of free communications dealing with the most reeent research in this field. We hope that this volume wil1 serve both as an introduction and a reference book, and that it wil1 stimulate further research.
