Автор: Diana Stuart, Ryan Gunderson, Brian Petersen Название: Climate Change Solutions: Beyond the Capital-Climate Contradiction ISBN: 0472131982 ISBN-13(EAN): 9780472131983 Издательство: Mare Nostrum (Eurospan) Рейтинг: Цена: 62830.00 T Наличие на складе: Нет в наличии. Описание: Climate Change Solutions represents an application of critical theory to examine proposed solutions to climate change. Drawing from Marx's negative conception of ideology, the authors illustrate how ideology continues to conceal the capital-climate contradiction or the fundamental incompatibility between growth-dependent capitalism and effectively and justly mitigating climate change. Dominant solutions to climate change that offer minor changes to the current system fail to address this contradiction. However, alternatives like degrowth involve a shift in priorities and power relations and can offer new systemic arrangements that confront and move beyond the capital-climate contradiction. While there are clear barriers to a systemic transition that prioritizes social and ecological well-being, such a transition is possible and desirable.
Название: Harlem`s Theaters: A Staging Ground for Community, Class, and Contradiction, 1923-1939 (Adrienne Macki Braconi) ISBN: 0810132249 ISBN-13(EAN): 9780810132245 Издательство: Mare Nostrum (Eurospan) Рейтинг: Цена: 100320.00 T Наличие на складе: Невозможна поставка. Описание: Based on a vast amount of archival research, Adrienne Macki Braconi’s illuminating study of three important community-based theaters in Harlem shows how their work was essential to the formation of a public identity for African Americans and the articulation of their goals, laying the groundwork for the emergence of the Civil Rights movement. Macki Braconi uses textual analysis, performance reconstruction, and audience reception to examine the complex dynamics of productions by the Krigwa Players, the Harlem Experimental Theatre, and the Negro Theatre of the Federal Theatre Project. Even as these theaters demonstrated the extraordinary power of activist art, they also revealedits limits. The stage was a site on which ideological and class differences played out, theater being both a force for change and a collision of contradictory agendas. Macki Braconi’s book alters our understanding of the Harlem Renaissance, the roots of the civil rights movement, and the history of community theater in America.

First published in in 1976, Hermann Levin Goldschmidt's Contradiction Set Free, (Freiheit f r den Widerspruch), reflects the push to explore new forms of critical thinking that gained momentum in the decade between Theodor Adorno's Negative Dialectics of 1966 and Paul Feyerabend's Against Method in 1975.
The book articulates Goldschmidt's reclamation of an epistemologically critical position that acknowledges the deep underlying link between the modes of production of knowledge and the social and political life they produce. In signalling a breakout from the academic rut and its repressive hold, Goldschmidt pointed beyond the ossified methods of a philosophical discourse whose oppressive consequences could no longer be ignored.Contradiction Set Free makes available for the first time in English a pivotal work by one of the great critical thinkers of the 20th century.
Автор: Andre Van Dokkum Название: Nationalism and Territoriality in Barue and Mozambique: Independence, Belonging, Contradiction ISBN: 9004428410 ISBN-13(EAN): 9789004428416 Издательство: Brill Цена: 65090.00 T Наличие на складе: Нет в наличии. Описание: Nationalism, as an ideology coupling self-conscious peoples to fixed territories, is often seen as emerging from European historical developments, also in postcolonial countries outside Europe. Andre van Dokkum’s Nationalism and Territoriality in Barue and Mozambique shows that this view is not universally true. The precolonial Kingdom of Barue in what is now Mozambique showed characteristics generally associated with nationalism, giving the country great resilience against colonial encroachment. Postcolonial Mozambique, on the other hand, has so far not succeeded in creating national coherence. The former anti-colonial organization and now party in power Frelimo has always stressed national unity, but only under its own guidance, paradoxically producing disunity.
Автор: Matthew Meyer Название: Reading Nietzsche through the Ancients: An Analysis of Becoming, Perspectivism, and the Principle of Non-Contradiction ISBN: 1934078417 ISBN-13(EAN): 9781934078419 Издательство: Walter de Gruyter Рейтинг: Цена: 127630.00 T Наличие на складе: Есть у поставщика Поставка под заказ. Описание: Nietzsche’s work was shaped by his engagement with ancient Greek philosophy. Matthew Meyer analyzes Nietzsche’s concepts of becoming and perspectivism and his alleged rejection of the principle of non-contradiction, and he traces these views back to the Heraclitean-Protagorean position that Plato and Aristotle critically analyze in the Theaetetus and Metaphysica IV, respectively. At the center of this Heraclitean-Protagorean position is a relational ontology in which everything exists and is what it is only in relation to something else. Meyer argues that this relational ontology is not only theoretically foundational for Nietzsche’s philosophical project, in that it is the common element in Nietzsche’s views on becoming, perspectivism, and the principle of non-contradiction, but also textually foundational, in that Nietzsche implicitly commits himself to such an ontology in raising the question of opposites at the beginning of both Human, All Too Human and Beyond Good and Evil.

The book revisits the final decade in the life of Osip Mandelstam (1891–1938), a leading poet of Russian Modernism, probing the contradictions of his biography and posthumous reputation. Famed for writing the dangerous ‹Stalin Epigram›, Mandelstam was interrogated by the secret police (OGPU), exiled and eventually imprisoned. This book offers an unprecedented close analysis of the protocols of Mandelstam’s interrogations by the OGPU, new translations of archival documents, evidence from letters and memoirs, and an original reading of these materials in the light of Mandelstam’s own critical ideas.
In dialogue with key proponents and critics of witness literature – Svetlana Alexiyevich, William Empson, Geoffrey Hill, Czeslaw Milosz, Olga Sedakova, and others – the book explores the delicate matter of the surviving witnesses’ responsibility to the memory of the dead while attempting to fulfill that responsibility in relation to Mandelstam. A broad array of witnesses assist the author in creating a complex and humane portrait of the poet who lived and died under tragic circumstances.
In The Borders of Dominicanidad Lorgia García-Peña explores the ways official narratives and histories have been projected onto racialized Dominican bodies as a means of sustaining the nation's borders. García-Peña constructs a genealogy of dominicanidad that highlights how Afro-Dominicans, ethnic Haitians, and Dominicans living abroad have contested these dominant narratives and their violent, silencing, and exclusionary effects. Centering the role of U.S. imperialism in drawing racial borders between Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and the United States, she analyzes musical, visual, artistic, and literary representations of foundational moments in the history of the Dominican Republic: the murder of three girls and their father in 1822; the criminalization of Afro-religious practice during the U.S. occupation between 1916 and 1924; the massacre of more than 20,000 people on the Dominican-Haitian border in 1937; and the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. García-Peña also considers the contemporary emergence of a broader Dominican consciousness among artists and intellectuals that offers alternative perspectives to questions of identity as well as the means to make audible the voices of long-silenced Dominicans.
