15 Fallbeispiele aus Praxis, Lehre und Forschung liefern inspirierende Einblicke in das Potenzial formbarer Holzwerkstoffe und digitaler Entwurfspraxis: Woven Wood, Wood Foam, Living Wood and Organic Joints, Timber Joints for Robotic Building Processes, Efficiencies of Wood, Designing with Tree Form.

Built environment professionals considering whether to embark on the design and construction or retrofit of a fully 'sustainable' or 'green' build need to know the financial implications of their decisions. What are their financial options? What are the risks? This book offers practical guidance on how sustainable building projects are financed, designed and built. All too often sustainable building is undertaken without proper consideration of the true lifecycle cost, risk and financial impact. This book will take the reader on a journey from initial sustainable design through to final completion highlighting the finance options available to them.
New Financial Strategies for Sustainable Buildings provides key guidance to a variety of professionals, including architects, designers, contractors, construction managers, investors and other interested parties, whilst providing a useful reference to students on architecture, construction management and real estate/surveying courses who need to know about finance, construction economics, and sustainable development projects.
Traditionally a building material of the warmer climate zones, bamboo is becoming increasingly popular amongst architects in the northern hemisphere; bamboo has several advantages – it is very stable, of low weight, and highly elastic, in addition to being readily available as well as renewable. The applications of bamboo in architecture have diversified considerably, so that today, even structures with large spans – such as bridges – are built with this material. Renowned universities such as the ETH Zurich or the SUTD in Singapore have conducted research on engineered bamboo which will further expand its use. The third edition of this manual provides a systematic overview of the applications and processing methods of this renewable material. Recent inspiring bamboo buildings have been added.

Описание: The concept of a circular economy in the construction sector captures global material flow through product design, inverse logistics, innovation and collaborations. The circulation of the economy takes into consideration global population influence, which affects the economy through a variety of construction product flows in particular. The increase in consumers means increasing product and services which participate in different waste streams. The emerging sustainable development in the construction industry requires the recycling of waste materials to reduce the negative environmental impact of construction activities. Accumulation and management of construction wastes is also becoming a major environmental and economical concern in many developing countries. Huge volumes of waste generated end up piled on landfill sites or illegally dumped, posing serious health and ecological problems. In the construction industry, recycling of waste concrete, masonry, cement, gypsum, to mention but a few, has become an important aspect due to the continued increase of construction wastes and depletion of natural aggregates. Why not establish a business system that is specifically designed to do much more value addition to the construction wastes and develop products which are not only in demand locally but internationally, to encourage exports for maximum financial gain. This book aims to analyze the current business model in the construction sector and the current legislation concerning waste management. It also highlights efforts required in order to refine the recycling methods in favor of a circular economy in the constuction industry. In support of a transition to a low carbon economy, different types of materials which can be produced from the construction wastes are indicated including processes which are used to obtain the final products. The market demand including penetration of the resulting products are given extensively. Policies and regulations to govern these undertakings are highlighted also. The municipalities will learn to redirect the local construction industries on how to avoid dumping at landfill sites as the space has currently become an issue. Researchers globally will learn how to go up through the Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) from basic research through prototype development and finally up to commercialization in projects related to the construction.

Modern Construction Case Studies focuses on the interface between the design of facades, structures and environments of 12 building projects, all developed by Newtecnic.
The Author compares facade technologies, particularly in the way they interface with structure and MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing services) in complex projects, to provide insights into the design process for building envelopes. Each envelope technology is described with an emphasis on one of three aspects: geometry, construction and performance.
The analysis links the 12 case studies by comparing their structural and environmental performance. The aim is achieved by analyzing typical bays which are representative of each project and which illustrate the implications of using different building envelope technologies.

Описание: The design, construction and use of buildings in tropical climates pose specific challenges to built environment professionals. This text seeks to capture some of the key issues of technology and practice in the areas of building design, refurbishment, construction and facilities management in tropical regions. Using a consistent chapter structure throughout, and incorporating the latest research findings, this book outlines:the functional requirements of buildings in tropical climatesthe challenges associated with the sustainability of the built environment, building form and whole life performance in the context of a tropical settingthe impact of potentially hostile tropical conditions upon building pathology and the durability of components, structure and fabric the tasks which face those responsible for appraising the design, condition, maintenance and conservation of built heritage in tropical regionsthe facilities management issues faced in tropical climatesand the refurbishment, upgrade and renewal of the tropical built environmentEach chapter incorporates reflective summaries and review tests and many chapters include case studies demonstrating how the principles discussed in the chapter can be applied to real life projects. The book is ideal as a course text for students of Architecture, Construction, Surveying and FM as well as providing a sound reference for practitioners working in these regions.
Infra-lightweight concrete combines the structural and thermal insulation functions of the building envelope in one monolithic material, thus providing new design options. The handbook is a practical guide to building with this new type of material.
The architects and structural engineers of the interdisciplinary team of authors combine their findings from many years of research, including from a project in which the team investigated the architectural and structural potential of infra-lightweight concrete in multi-story residential buildings.
In addition to essential information on designing with the material, including construction details, and an overview of the building physics properties, practical advice on building details is provided in the form of sizing tables and numerous details from various projects.
