Preparing the Next Generation of Teacher Educators for Clinical Practice

Описание: Today, in many contexts the lack of attention to preparing the next generation of teacher educators as well as having a critical mass of faculty who understand the current teacher education research problem lingers. Although the NCATE Blue Ribbon Panel Report (2010), the recent advent of the CAEP standards, and the new AACTE Clinical Practice Commission Report (2017) challenge those responsible for teacher preparation to rethink the design as well as their work within clinical practice, there is much too little discussion about how to prepare the next generation of teacher educators to work differently. Just like Zeichner found almost 20 years ago, teacher education still too often remains “a tangential concern for most and the major concern of only a few” (Ziechner, 1999, p. 11). These concerns raise important questions for those who are currently responsible for pivoting, reinventing, and researching teacher preparation. This book offers insights from teacher education researchers that illustrate the ongoing benefits and persistent challenges of educating and preparing university and school-based teacher educators. This is an important step in understanding the complex roles, practices, and responsibilities associated with high quality teacher education that emphasizes clinical practice.

Описание: This book is for anyone interested in how to build a teacher education program utilizing the arts as one central modality for teaching and learning or for those interested in building some of their program along these lines. Throughout the book you will find reference to the intersection of ethics, aesthetics, and teaching. We provide an integrated program devoted to good learning and the good society. In the book we discuss how the program came to be and the underlying educational thinking that informs the whole program. This section of the book is invaluable for understanding how the reader can build her/ his own arts approach to teacher education. The central section of the book is devoted to the specific coursework of the program. Each author describes in detail how she/he leverages aesthetics and art to expand the possibilities of learning and teaching (including a chapter focused on the core competency course, Teaching, Imagination, Creativity) in language and literacy, psychology of education, science education, mathematics education, social studies education, and classroom management including many examples from our teaching. The book ends with a focus group discussion about the program by former students.

Описание: The current trend of learner centeredness in education has been challenging many of the current ways of working, especially in higher education institutions. This rapid change in educational institutions demands educators acquire new sets of skills via continuous reflective practices. Hence, educators in higher education institutions are actively involved in research-driven teaching and learning practices. This change of role from mere content delivery to learning facilitators could be better achieved through a strong research-driven community of practice. Preparing 21st Century Teachers for Teach Less, Learn More (TLLM) Pedagogies is a pivotal reference source that provides vital research on the application of practice-based learning techniques in higher education institutions. This publication establishes a platform for academics to share their best practices to promote teach less, learn more pedagogies and learn reciprocally from the community of practice. While highlighting topics such as interactive learning, experiential technology, and logical thinking skills, this book is ideally designed for teachers, instructional designers, higher education faculty, deans, researchers, professionals, universities, academicians, and students seeking current research on transformative learning and future teaching practices.

Описание: Stories matter. Stories speak about complex aspects of our lives that intuitively we know are important but for which the language of rational discourse is often inadequate. Stories draw on archetypal structures and evocative language in ways that create affect: they penetrate, provoke, and disturb. This is a book of nine stories about teachers and students. A young woman sits in her first teacher-education lecture and wonders what kind of a tribe she is joining. A preservice teacher clashes with his mentor teacher on a practicum. A teacher and students inhabit an online space with unpredictable consequences. Sally discovers the Universarium. Joseph writes a story that undoes his therapist. Sylvia struggles to free herself from an oppressive discourse about the nature of teaching. Two siblings support and console each other through their complex inductions into classroom lifeworlds. A secondary student goes missing and police, the media and his teachers wonder why. A teacher-education academic wrestles with elusive ideas in order to prepare a lecture that he hopes will make a more-than-passing impact. There is no other book like Imagined Worlds and Classroom Realities. It not only tells nine gripping stories, but also positions these stories as part of a growing scholarship about story-telling. It includes, as well, practical ways of using the stories in teacher education and professional development. Cover design by Solomon Karmel-Shann
