Описание:

Modern petroleum and petrotechnical engineering is increasingly challenging due to the inherently scarce and decreasing number of global petroleum resources. Exploiting these resources efficiently will require researchers, scientists, engineers and other practitioners to develop innovative mathematical solutions to serve as basis for new asset development designs. Deploying these systems in numerical models is essential to the future success and efficiency of the petroleum industry.

Multiphysics modeling has been widely applied in the petroleum industry since the 1960s. The rapid development of computer technology has enabled the numerical applications of multiphysics modeling in the petroleum industry: its applications are particularly popular for the numerical simulation of drilling and completion processes. This book covers theory and numerical applications of multiphysical modeling presenting various author-developed subroutines, used to address complex pore pressure input, complex initial geo-stress field input, etc. Some innovative methods in drilling and completion developed by the authors, such as trajectory optimization and a 3-dimensional workflow for calculation of mud weight window etc, are also presented. Detailed explanations are provided for the modeling process of each application example included in the book. In addition, details of the completed numerical models data are presented as supporting material which can be downloaded from the website of the publisher. Readers can easily understand key modeling techniques with the theory of multiphysics embedded in examples of applications, and can use the data to reproduce the results presented.

While this book would be of interest to any student, academic or professional practitioner of engineering, mathematics and natural science, we believe those professionals and academics working in civil engineering, petroleum engineering and petroleum geomechanics would find the work especially relevant to their endeavors.

Описание: "The heat transfer and analysis on laser beam, evaporator coils, shell-and-tube condenser, two phase flow, nanofluids, complex fluids, and on phase change are significant issues in a design of wide range of industrial processes and devices. The most common class of multiphase flows are two-phase flows. A gas-liquid flow is probably the most important form of multiphase flow, and is found widely in a whole range of industrial applications. These include pipeline systems for the transport of oil-gas mixtures, evaporators, boilers, condensers, submerged combustion systems, sewerage treatment plants, air-conditioning and refrigeration plants, and cryogenic plants. Gas-liquid systems are also important in the meteorology and in other natural phenomena. Flows of solids suspended in gases are important in pneumatic conveying and in pulverized fuel combustion. Fluidized beds may also be regarded as a form of gas-solid flow. Liquid-liquid flows are the flow of oil-water mixtures in pipelines and in liquid-liquid solvent extraction mass transfer systems. The most important application of liquid-solid flow is in the hydraulic conveying of solid materials. Liquid-solid suspensions also occur in crystallization systems, and in hydro-cyclones. Historically, probably the most commonly studied cases of two-phase flow are in large-scale power systems. Coal and gas-fired power stations used very large boilers to produce steam for use in turbines. Two Phase Flow, Phase Change and Numerical Modeling covers mainly numerical modeling of heat transfer, two phase flow, nanofluids, and phase change."

Mathematical and Numerical Modeling in Porous Media

Описание:

Porous media are broadly found in nature and their study is of high relevance in our present lives. In geosciences porous media research is fundamental in applications to aquifers, mineral mines, contaminant transport, soil remediation, waste storage, oil recovery and geothermal energy deposits. Despite their importance, there is as yet no complete understanding of the physical processes involved in fluid flow and transport. This fact can be attributed to the complexity of the phenomena which include multicomponent fluids, multiphasic flow and rock-fluid interactions. Since its formulation in 1856, Darcy's law has been generalized to describe multi-phase compressible fluid flow through anisotropic and heterogeneous porous and fractured rocks. Due to the scarcity of information, a high degree of uncertainty on the porous medium properties is commonly present. Contributions to the knowledge of modeling flow and transport, as well as to the characterization of porous media at field scale are of great relevance. This book addresses several of these issues, treated with a variety of methodologies grouped into four parts:

I Fundamental concepts
II Flow and transport
III Statistical and stochastic characterization
IV Waves

The problems analyzed in this book cover diverse length scales that range from small rock samples to field-size porous formations. They belong to the most active areas of research in porous media with applications in geosciences developed by diverse authors.

This book was written for a broad audience with a prior and basic knowledge of porous media. The book is addressed to a wide readership, and it will be useful not only as an authoritative textbook for undergraduate and graduate students but also as a reference source for professionals including geoscientists, hydrogeologists, geophysicists, engineers, applied mathematicians and others working on porous media.

Описание:

This book provides readers with an incisive look at cutting-edge peridynamic modeling methods, numerical techniques, their applications, and potential future directions for the field. It starts with an introductory chapter authored by Stewart Silling, who originally developed peridynamics. It then looks at new concepts in the field, with chapters covering dual-horizon peridynamics, peridynamics for axisymmetric analysis, beam and plate models in peridynamics, coupled peridynamics and XFEM, peridynamics for dynamic fracture modeling, and more. From there, it segues into coverage of cutting-edge applications of peridynamics, exploring its biological applications, modeling at the nanoscale, peridynamics for composites delamination and damage in ceramics, and more, concluding with a chapter on the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in peridynamics.

Physical Modeling and Computational Techniques for Thermal and Fluid-dynamics

Описание: This book on computational techniques for thermal and fluid-dynamic problems arose from seminars given by the author at the Institute of Nuclear Energy Technology of Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. The book is composed of eight chapters-- some of which are characterized by a scholastic approach, others are devoted to numerical solution of ordinary differential equations of first order, and of partial differential equations of first and second order, respectively. In Chapter IV, basic concepts of consistency, stability and convergence of discretization algorithms are covered in some detail. Other parts of the book follow a less conventional approach, mainly informed by the author’s experience in teaching and development of computer programs. Among these is Chapter III, where the residual method of Orthogonal Collocations is presented in several variants, ranging from the classical Galerkin method to Point and Domain Collocations, applied to numerical solution of partial differential equations of first order. In most cases solutions of fluid dynamic problems are led through the discretization process, to the numerical solutions of large linear systems. Intended to impart a basic understanding of numerical techniques that would enable readers to deal with problems of Computational Fluid Dynamics at research level, the book is ideal as a reference for graduate students, researchers, and practitioners.
