Описание: Russia: From Proletarian Revolution to State-Capitalist Counter-Revolution is a selection of writings by the Marxist-Humanist philosopher Raya Dunayevskaya, which begins with an examination of Lenin’s Hegel Notebooks, his philosophic preparation for proletarian revolution, followed by a section on “What Happens After” the revolution--the first years post 1917. Analyses of Trotsky, Stalin, Bukharin, and Luxemburg are presented. A key section is “Russia’s Transformation into Opposite: The Theory of State-Capitalism.” Opposition to Russian state-capitalism such as the 1953 East Germany Revolt and the 1956 Hungarian Revolution are described. Mao’s China as another form of state-capitalism, as well as the Sino-Soviet conflict, is discussed. The study ends with a “battle of ideas” with other analyses of the Revolution and its aftermath.

In Simon Gikandi’s view, Caribbean literature and postcolonial literature more generally negotiate an uneasy relationship with the concepts of modernism and modernity—a relationship in which the Caribbean writer, unable to escape a history encoded by Europe, accepts the challenge of rewriting it. Drawing on contemporary deconstructionist theory, Gikandi looks at how such Caribbean writers as George Lamming, Samuel Selvon, Alejo Carpentier, C. L. R. James, Paule Marshall, Merle Hodge, Zee Edgell, and Michelle Cliff have attempted to confront European modernism.

A cultural history of writer and literary critic Hayashi Fusa?'s (1903–1975) tenk? experience, Stories from the Samurai Fringe examines Hayashi's tenk? (ideological conversion) through a close reading of his proletarian short stories. Tracing Hayashi's move from "romanticizing" to "defining" to "remembering" the proletarian literature movement and its participants in his proletarian fiction, this study argues for a far more personal and political rationale for Hayashi's subsequent turn to ultranationalism. Stories from the Samurai Fringe concludes with a consideration of Hayashi's tenk? experience, first, within the historiographical context of the early Showa years (1926–1937), and then within the trans-war setting of Hayashi's reemergence as a proponent of wartime nationalism.

Автор: Stephen Ross Название: Modernism, Theory, and Responsible Reading: A Critical Conversation ISBN: 1350185817 ISBN-13(EAN): 9781350185814 Издательство: Bloomsbury Academic Рейтинг: Цена: 100320.00 T Наличие на складе: Есть у поставщика Поставка под заказ. Описание: Introducing readers to a new theory of 'responsible reading', this book presents a range of perspectives on the contemporary relationship between modernism and theory. Using an innovative format of essay and response, it promotes conversation among disparate views under a shared commitment to 'responsible reading' practices. It questions the nature of the relationship between modernism and theory today and ask how we are to proceed if we wish to eschew the “strong” but have misgivings about the “weak”?Touching on areas as diverse as the recent surge in post-critique and/or affect studies; longer histories of theory, modernism, and critique; new ways of understanding the interplay between modernism and theory, the book draws out links to emerging concerns such as the Anthropocene, the post-human, and eco-theory. Above all, these essays articulate and model a method of “responsible reading”: a practice that reads generously and engages constructively, even where disagreement is inevitable, articulating a mode of ethical reading that is fundamental to ongoing debates about strength and weakness, paranoia and reparation, critique and affect.
