An essential examination of black youth activism since the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act What happened to black youth in the post-civil rights generation? What kind of causes did they rally around and were they even rallying in the first place? After the Rebellion takes a close look at a variety of key civil rights groups across the country over the last 40 years to provide a broad view of black youth and social movement activism. Based on both research from a diverse collection of archives and interviews with youth activists, advocates, and grassroots organizers, this book examines popular mobilization among the generation of activists—principally black students, youth, and young adults—who came of age after the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Franklin argues that the political environment in the post-Civil Rights era, along with constraints on social activism, made it particularly difficult for young black activists to start and sustain popular mobilization campaigns. Building on case studies from around the country—including New York, the Carolinas, California, Louisiana, and Baltimore—After the Rebellion explores the inner workings and end results of activist groups such as the Southern Negro Youth Congress, Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, the Student Organization for Black Unity, the Free South Africa Campaign, the New Haven Youth Movement, the Black Student Leadership Network, the Juvenile Justice Reform Movement, and the AFL-CIO’s Union Summer campaign. Franklin demonstrates how youth-based movements and intergenerational campaigns have attempted to circumvent modern constraints, providing insight into how the very inner workings of these organizations have and have not been effective in creating change and involving youth. A powerful work of both historical and political analysis, After the Rebellion provides a vivid explanation of what happened to the militant impulse of young people since the demobilization of the civil rights and black power movements—a discussion with great implications for the study of generational politics, racial and black politics, and social movements.

Описание: This book was written to be used as a foundation for a movement to raise the consciousness of citizens of the world. The fact is, - "Hurt people hurt people, but Blessed people, Bless people""When people are functioning from a position of higher level of consciousness, - (strong self-love, they believe in themselves and their ability to get what they desire, they are not affected by other people's definition of them, they see the good in all people, they takes personal responsibility for their actions and results, they view life from a position of abundance, they believe in treating people fairly, their respect themselves and the views of others, they believe that everyone is entitled to their own believes and personal freedom)." it would not allow them to knowingly hurt another human being." "One can't legislate morality - otherwise jails would have prevented crime, and illness and early, untimely death, would have deterred the use and abuse of illegal drugs. People will change only there is a change in consciousness"Our world has enough natural resources, and definitely more than enough money to satisfy the basic needs of every living human being - food, clothing, shelter and drinking water, what we lack is love, socially conscientious leadership, a renewed sense of morality, dignity for life in all of its forms, and common respect of the rights of people to make decisions that pleases themselves, as long as their decisions do not impede the rights of others. While many people see negative effects when groups of people are disenfranchised due to race, gender, religion and social class, the solutions they offer, - education, and or jobs, while good intentioned, only address the symptoms of the problems. The quality of life for human as we have been accustomed to is being threatened by the decrease of clean (healthy) drinking water, the increased pollution of the oceans, reduction to the rain forest, increase in impure air, damage to farmlands for agriculture and life stock, destruction to vital species such as bees, and climate change, crime and violence, just to name a few. These issues collectively over time in addition to the change of the need for labor due to the developments in technologies will cause major shifts in population movements in search of work, food and a better quality of life. What is needed to solve the many issues we al facing is Influential, inspirational leadership, a mass change in consciousness, and positive alternatives to support the required change. This book was written as my contribution to jump-start the mass change of consciousness.

My advice is as follows: the Quran is the guide and the weapon of Muslims. Through the 114 Suras and 6,247 verses of the Quran, Muslims must well-handle this guide, this weapon, to combat their ignorance of the divine truth. This truth will set them free and will help them to find the path of salvation. After death, the body remains on earth and the soul joined God Almighty through a single door to be judged. And everyone, particularly my Muslim brothers and sisters, must seek and find that single door in order to save his own soul. Being a suspension of spermatozoon, do not challenge God the Father and obey his holy Word.
My prayer goes to all people who will read and trust this book. And I encourage everyone to do their own research in order to find the divine truth from God the Father.

Описание: In Making America Great: The Immigrant Experience, former Jamaican athlete and now naturalized U.S. citizen Sekou M. Clarke shares his unique experience navigating America as an immigrant and as an immigration attorney. His life is a representation of the American Dream, and his book breathes life into the real experiences of immigrants today and throughout U.S. history. Sekou believes it is impossible to tell the American story without stories of immigrants. He breaks down the meaning of We the People, exploring the history of U.S. immigration, challenging commonly held views, and debunking the polarizing narrative that immigrants are second-class citizens, invading and robbing Americans of opportunities. Throughout this enlightening read, Sekou weaves in true stories of clients he has served. He examines the value immigrants have added to a number of U.S. industries and institutions, and invites readers to explore the theory that America has not become weaker because it became different; America became stronger because it embraced those differences. Sekou also shares his thoughts on how immigrants can evolve, adapt and most importantly, thrive in today's America.

Описание: “This book is not for you. It is not for architectural academic elites. It is not for those who have gentrified our neighborhoods, overly intellectualized the profession, and ignored all contemporary Black theory within the discipline. You have made architecture a symbol of exclusion, oppression, and domination rather than expression, aspiration, and inspiration. This book is not for conformists—Black, White, or other.”
As architecture grapples with its own racist legacy, Hip-Hop Architecture outlines a powerful new manifesto—the voice of the underrepresented, marginalized, and voiceless within the discipline. Exploring the production of spaces, buildings, and urban environments that embody the creative energies in hip-hop, it is a newly expanding design philosophy which sees architecture as a distinct part of hip-hop's cultural expression, and which uses hip-hop as a lens through which to provoke new architectural ideas.
Examining the present and the future of Hip-Hop Architecture, the book also explores its historical antecedents and its theory, placing it in a wider context both within architecture and within Black and African American movements. Throughout, the work is illustrated with inspirational case studies of architectural projects and creative practices, and interspersed with interludes and interviews with key architects, designers, and academics in the field. This is a vital and provocative work that will appeal to architects, designers, students, theorists, and anyone interested in a fresh view of architecture, design, race and culture.
