Wherever the Marxist agenda is found, it has always followed the same simple formula: Destroy and Rebuild. Agitprop, the technique invented by Lenin to rouse his fellow Russians to overthrow the government of czarist Russia, has been used in the United States since the 1960s and is still being used to destroy America's culture and rebuild it as Cultural Marxism.
Agitprop in America identifies this attempted "transformation" of the United States as an anti-American movement, which has been variously called "the culture war," "the counter culture," and "political correctness." By analyzing the movement's dogmas and methods, including the manipulation of American speech, and by trenchant comments on cultural history, this book provides the understanding needed to thwart the imposition of an alien, atheistic culture on the United States. European readers may find Agitprop in America of some use in the cultural crisis which they face.

Описание: In Giles Firmin and the Transatlantic Puritan Tradition, Jonathan Warren Pagan offers an intellectual biography of Giles Firmin (1613/14–1697), who lived in both Old and New England and lived through many of the transitions of international puritanism in the seventeenth century. By contextualizing Firmin in his intellectual milieu, Warren Pagan also offers a unique vantage on the transition of puritanism to Dissent in late Stuart England, surveying changing approaches to ecclesiology, pastoral theology, and the ordo salutis among the godly during the Restoration through Firmin’s writings.
Автор: Cat Quine Название: Casting Down the Host of Heaven: The Rhetoric of Ritual Failure in the Polemic Against the Host of Heaven ISBN: 9004424385 ISBN-13(EAN): 9789004424388 Издательство: Brill Цена: 138140.00 T Наличие на складе: Нет в наличии. Описание: In Casting Down the Host of Heaven Cat Quine analyses the ambiguous nature of the Host and explores the role of ritual in the polemic against their worship. Although commonly assumed to be YHWH’s divine army, the book reveals their non-military and fluid nature. Quine demonstrates that it was the fluidity of the Host and their roles in the divine realm that permitted the creation of wide-ranging polemic against their worship. Her analysis shows that this polemic was expressed in ritual terms which persuaded its audiences, both ancient and modern, of its legitimacy and authority.

Contra Instrumentalism questions the long-accepted notion that translation reproduces or transfers an invariant contained in or caused by the source text. This “instrumental” model of translation has dominated translation theory and commentary for more than two millennia, and its influence can be seen today in elite and popular cultures, in academic institutions and in publishing, in scholarly monographs and in literary journalism, in the most rarefied theoretical discourses and in the most commonly used clichés.
Contra Instrumentalism aims to end the dominance of instrumentalism by showing how it grossly oversimplifies translation practice and fosters an illusion of immediate access to source texts. Lawrence Venuti asserts that all translation is an interpretive act that necessarily entails ethical responsibilities and political commitments. Venuti argues that a hermeneutic model offers a more comprehensive and incisive understanding of translation that enables an appreciation of not only the creative and scholarly aspects of what a translator does but also the crucial role translation plays in the cultural and social institutions that shape human life.
Автор: Jeff Kendrick, Katherine S. Maynard Название: Polemic and Literature Surrounding the French Wars of Religion ISBN: 1501518038 ISBN-13(EAN): 9781501518034 Издательство: Walter de Gruyter Цена: 107790.00 T Наличие на складе: Нет в наличии. Описание: Polemic and Literature Surrounding the French Wars of Religion demonstrates that literature and polemic interacted constantly in sixteenth-century France, constructing ideological frameworks that defined the various groups to which individuals belonged and through which they defined their identities. Contributions explore both literary texts (prose, poetry, and theater) and more intentionally polemical texts that fall outside of the traditional literary genres. Engaging the continuous casting and recasting of opposing worldviews, this collection of essays examines literature's use of polemic and polemic's use of literature as seminal intellectual developments stemming from the religious and social turmoil that characterized this period in France.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, although best known for his literary work, was also a keen and outspoken natural scientist. In the second polemic part of Zur Farbenlehre (Theory of Colours), for example, Goethe attacked Isaac Newton's ground-breaking revelation that light is heterogeneous and not immutable, as was previously thought.
This polemic was unanimously rejected by the physicists of the day, and has often been omitted from compendia of Goethe's works. Indeed, although Goethe repeated all of Newton's key experiments, he was never able to achieve the same results. Many reasons have been proposed for this, ranging from the psychological -- such as a blind hatred of Newtonism, self-deceit and paranoid psychosis -- to accusations of incapability -- Goethe simply did not understand the experiments. Yet Goethe was never to be dissuaded from this passionate conviction.
This translation of Goethe's polemic, published for the first time in English, makes it clear that Goethe did understand the thrust of Newton's logic. It demonstrates that Goethe's resistance to Newton's theory stemmed from something quite different; his pantheism -- the belief in the spiritual nature of light. This prevented him from allowing himself to think of light in physical terms and accepting that it is anything other than simple, immutable, and unknowable.
This important new translation will be useful to natural scientists, historians, philosophers and theologians alike and will delight anyone hoping to add a further layer of nuance to Goethe's complex portrait.
Автор: Nathan MacDonald Название: Priestly Rule: Polemic and Biblical Interpretation in Ezekiel 44 ISBN: 3110410036 ISBN-13(EAN): 9783110410037 Издательство: Walter de Gruyter Цена: 111510.00 T Наличие на складе: Есть у поставщика Поставка под заказ. Описание: Whilst prophetic oracles in late prophetic books evidence tensions about the Jerusalem temple and its priesthood, MacDonald demonstrates that the relationships between prophetic oracles have been incorrectly appraised. Employing an interpretative method attentive to issues of redaction and inner-biblical interpretation, MacDonald show that Ezekiel 44 is a polemical response to Isaiah 56, and not the reverse as is typically assumed. This has significant consequences for the dating of Ezekiel 44 and for its relationship to other biblical texts, especially Pentateuchal texts from Leviticus and Numbers. Since Ezekiel 44 has been a crucial chapter in understanding the historical development of the priesthood, MacDonald's arguments affect our understanding of the origins of the distinction between Levites and priests, and the claims that a Zadokite priestly sept dominated the Second Temple hierarchy.
