Bei genauer Betrachtung zeigt sich, dass das Neue teils in Reformulierungen des traditionellen Wissens uber Rhetorik besteht, teils in Fortschreibungen der klassischen Theorien, teils aber auch in zeitgema?en Neuansatzen, die neue Perspektiven ins Spiel bringen. Dahinter stand und steht immer die Einsicht, dass sich die menschlichen Kommunikationsmoglichkeiten durch technische Innovationen und soziale und kulturelle Entwicklungen verandern wie auch die sich wandelnden Anspruche an Theoriearbeit zu immer neuen Auseinandersetzungen mit Fragen der Rhetorik fuhren.
