They were called Roosevelts butchers by the German citizens in towns like Magdeburg and Julich, who witnessed first hand, the bloodbath that resulted with victory on the line; when taking prisoners was no longer an option. From Camp Hahn, in the California desert, to England and through Europe, the friendships that Arnold developed helped him Survive without the love and support of his family. Arnolds faith in God, and his love and passion for his wife, Jane, drove him to not only survive, but to become a hero; bravely going into battle, and beyond the call of duty, saving the life of a friend and fellow soldier. They were the first armor ashore at Normandy, the first Armor into Belgium and the first U.S. armor into Berlin.
