Richard Hageman (1881-1966) was celebrated during his lifetime as a conductor, pianist, vocal coach, and composer. His art songs put him solidly in the vanguard of mid-century composers and he was routinely referred to in the same context as Aaron Copland, Virgil Thomson, William Grant Still, and Erich Wolfgang Korngold. His opera Caponsacchi was the first American opera to premiere in Freiburg-im-Breisgau and Vienna. A conductor at the Metropolitan Opera, Hageman knew the great singers of the age, conducting Enrico Caruso and Geraldine Farrar, and accompanying Nellie Melba and Emmy Destinn. He wrote songs for John McCormack and Lotte Lehmann. By the late 1930s Hageman was composing in Hollywood, scoring westerns for John Ford and earning six Academy Award nominations. In Hollywood, he had drinks with John Wayne, rubbed shoulders with Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy, and shared the screen with Louis Armstrong and Elizabeth Taylor.
Richard Hageman: From Holland to Hollywood is the first critical biography to reconstruct Hageman’s colorful life while recreating the cultural milieu in which he flourished: opera in America during the first half of the twentieth century and film scoring in Hollywood in the heyday of the studio system. Here Hageman’s most important works are analyzed in depth for the first time, from his famous art song, "Do Not Go, My Love" and his opera Caponsacchi, to his film scores such as She Wore a Yellow Ribbon and 3 Godfathers. This biography offers a compelling read for opera lovers, film fans, and American history enthusiasts alike.

Описание: Medical Simulation has become a standard training tool for novice providers and master clinicians alike. In a controlled environment, everything from communication skills to crisis resource management and procedures can be practiced and evaluated. The traditional "see one, do one, teach one" pedagogy is antiquated as high fidelity simulation experiences allow for a safer "see one, practice a few, do one, teach one." This is especially embraced in the pediatric community where our patients are sometimes less cooperative and the stakes can feel emotionally heightened. This handbook represents lessons learned from hundreds and thousands of hours of personal experience with Pediatric Simulation and is appropriately rooted in the best evidence and shared knowledge in simulation literature. This handbook is not meant to be a comprehensive overview of Pediatric Simulation. Those books exist. The journals are great. The communities of Pediatric Simulation experts are welcoming and beyond wonderful. This handbook is meant to be a pragmatic consult. If you are a brand-new simulation faculty member looking for an outline of best practices with practical tips for implementation, this handbook is for you. If you are a seasoned simulation veteran with good working knowledge of simulation wondering how to develop pediatric-specific programs, this handbook is for you. If you are a simulation tech or new operations staff trying to train and orient yourself, this handbook is for you. If you are trying to help make the case for a certain type of simulation program to stakeholders, this handbook is for you. We hope that sharing our personal wins and lessons alongside evidence reads as a consult or a helpful colleague.

Hageman Название: Pediatric Critical Care: A Primer for All Clinicians ISBN: 1536148377 ISBN-13(EAN): 9781536148374 Издательство: Nova Science Рейтинг: Цена: 275610.00 T Наличие на складе: Невозможна поставка. Описание: Pediatric critical care is an emotionally and intellectually demanding field of medicine; however, it is at its core the discipline focused on saving and improving the lives of children affected by acute and chronic illnesses, injuries, and toxicities. The heart of any successful pediatric critical care program is the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary care provided by pediatric intensivists and their team of specialized co-workers including pediatric critical care nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, social workers, and nutritionists working in concert with the pediatric ICU (PICU). It is this interplay between clinical specialists that ensures children are afforded cutting-edge, technologically complex, holistic, and age-appropriate care, while at the same time ensuring that the needs of both the child and the family are addressed. Additionally, critical care medicine encompasses the extremes of all pediatric medicine and as such those charged with caring for children in the PICU must be well versed in all areas of pediatric medicine, as well as prepared for any contingency or emergency. Caring for sick children both within and outside of the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) requires an understanding of how pediatric physiology differs from that of adults. Recognizing a deteriorating child and stabilizing that patient rapidly is a requisite skill that every clinician charged with caring for children must master. This practical handbook is written for all clinicians who care for children with acute illness, and who may need to assess and stabilize a deteriorating child before transfer to the PICU. Specifically, chapters provide helpful insights for all levels of pediatric providers including pediatric critical care and general care nurses, advanced practice nurses, medical students, pediatric residents, residents from other disciplines who rotate through PICU, pediatric hospitalists, and emergency physicians who care for children. In addition to covering PICU-specific topics such as mechanical ventilation and procedural sedation, this handbook also includes guidance in the initial resuscitation, management and stabilization of children with impending critical illness or those at risk for acute deterioration. Management of life-threatening situations that are specifically included in this book include respiratory failure, cardiovascular failure, electrolyte derangements, diabetic ketoacidosis, burn injuries, status epilepticus, status asthmaticus, toxic ingestions, and sepsis, among many others.
