The term "anti-racism" is completely arbitrary. There are many organized structures and ideological movements in the world that designate or agree to designate themselves by that name, but there is nothing that even remotely resembles a single ideology or social movement.
Antiracism is a transformative concept that reorients and reenergizes the conversation about racism- and, even more fundamentally, points us towards liberating new ways of thinking about each other and about ourselves. Racism is at its core a powerful system that creates false hierarchies of human value; its distorted logic extends beyond race, from the way we look at people of different ethnicities or colors of the skin to the way we treat people of different sexes, gender identities and types of bodies.
"Racism" in recent decades has gradually lost its connotations associated exclusively with biology and has become an unusually broad concept. In general terms, the latter means violence and discrimination on racial or ethnic grounds, as well as ideas justifying such violence and discrimination.
Accordingly, the collective name "anti-racism" is well suited to emphasize that in this context we are only talking about (in) equality on those grounds that are associated with racial and ethnic division, and not with anything else.
This book breaks down all the big ideas and relevant facts about Antiracist "so they can be understood easily and quickly. Also included is a Bonus for Analysis & Action Plan which will help you on your journey. Continue reading below to see everything you'll get.
The book teaches how to be conscious of racism (racist policy) by describing its roots and meanings clearly. Whether we've got a black body or a white one. Your purpose is to depict racism as a power system that was born centuries ago and explain the road to an anti-racist society, and how anti-racism is a better goal than non-racism.

Hypertext Magazine & Studio is a social justice writing nonprofit with a mission of serving divested Chicago-area adults using storytelling techniques to give them a voice and publishing to give their words a visible home.
Congratulations to Hypertext Review's First Annual Short Story & Essay Contest winners and finalists judged by Christine Sneed (fiction) and Juan Martinez (essay). Huge thanks to Christine and Juan for donating their time and expertise to further Hypertext Magazine & Studio's mission of empowering divested Chicago-area adults using storytelling techniques to give citizens a voice and publishing to give their words a visible home.
And believe it or not, Hypertext Magazine online has been publishing fiction, essays, poetry, and visual art for ten years. That's a pretty big milestone for any literary magazine. Here's to ten (or 20) more. Cheers
More recently, our umbrella organization--the social justice writing workshop nonprofit Hypertext Magazine & Studio (HMS)--will publish our first social justice writing workshop anthology. This will be published in Fall 2019--so look for it, buy it, give it as a gift. You get the gist.
By supporting HMS online and buying our literary and social justice journals, you will help us bring writing workshops to Chicago-area individuals--citizens who were formerly incarcerated and those impacted by homelessness, poverty, and substance use disorders. As of HMS's founding in late 2017, our mission has reached over 600 individuals.
