Описание: During a closed-door meeting of Washington policy makers on 31 March 1971, a senior CIA officer informed National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger that the agency was controlling up to 8 divisions of indigenous troops in Laos. "When the CIA reaches the point of having the largest army in Southeast Asia," retorted Kissinger, "we better review the program!"
The Erawan War, Volume 2 details how the CIA operation in Laos reached that point, becoming its largest paramilitary operation of the Cold War. With photos and maps, it covers the wide range of CIA-supported units in Laos, from guerrilla regiments that went toe-to-toe with the North Vietnamese army in pitched campaigns, to top-secret commandos that crossed borders to wage clandestine sabotage attacks.

New life for old words...
Rhyming Psalms need to be heard...
POWERFUL... POETIC...
RHYTHMIC, RHYMING PSALMS...
A fresh expression of God's Word to ignite your soul.
The Psalms are so powerful.
They were written to be sung
or read out aloud.
This rhyming version is a joy to hear
and it was such a blessing to work on.
My prayer is that it is also a great blessing,
to all that read and hear it -
Brendan Conboy.

Описание: As World War II drew to a close, the Imperial Japanese military seized control of Laos, a French protectorate, and encouraged nationalist movements to forestall the revival of French power in the region. Despite these efforts the French re-entered Indochina and methodically retook the protectorate. By 1957, the government of Laos and the core of the Communist Laotian forces, known as the Pathet Lao, entered an uneasy truce, which plunged the country into 15 years of war.
This text explores the resulting war, providing a summary of events and profiling the Laotian government forces, the government Allied forces and the Communist forces.
IN A NATION where the military has played an influential social and political role since its founding, perhaps no unit has wielded more power - and seen more combat - than Kopassus, Indonesia's Special Forces. And perhaps nowhere did it experience more challenging assignments than in the mountains and jungles of East Timor.
Here, two Kopassus teams - codenamed nanggala, a Sanskrit term for "divine spear" - are documented in detail during the earliest phase of the East Timor campaign. Coming when Fretilin insurgents were at their most powerful, these Special Forces teams took on assignments ranging from airborne assaults to psychological warfare. This book is essential reading for anyone interested in unconventional warfare, contemporary Indonesian history, the struggle of Timor Leste, and the brushfire wars that have swept the Indonesian archipelago.

Offers a definitive history of the British and Irish Press from 1900-2017
Captures the cross-regional and transnational dimension of press history in twentieth-century and at the start of twenty first-century Britain and Ireland
Offers unique and important reassessments of twentieth-century and contemporary British and Irish press and periodical media within social, cultural, technological, economic and historical contexts
Provides a timeline of significant events for cross-reference as well as an extensive bibliography for further research
At various points over the last 400 years, key political, economic and social processes, have worked to hinder or promote the expansion and dissemination of information across Britain and Ireland via newspapers and periodicals. In a contemporary era characterized by debate on the limits of devolution and the potential of independence we need to assess the roles played by newspapers and periodicals in enabling national and regional identities to emerge, cohere and diversify over time. How can we best identify the most significant of these processes? What were the critical flashpoints in their development? How have they marked the place of the press in civic society? What are the consequences in considering these within the general history of the British and Irish press? This proposed volume in a three volume series will address these matters, offering a definitive account of newspaper and periodical press activity across Britain and Ireland between 1900 and 2017, and addressing questions related to four key research interests: general social/political history; newspaper and periodical history; cultural history; technological history. A further aim is to situate such discussions within the larger framework of communication and media history.
