The 2022 edition of the beloved cult diary explores worlds beyond ours, with art and writing by Hieronymous Bosch, Frederick Douglass and more

There may be no great diarists, then, but there are still great diaries.... In the midst of ones self-obsessions, the Redstone Diary reminds one of other worlds, declared writer Ian Sansom in the Guardian, of the inimitable diaries published by Londons Redstone Press. Since its inaugural edition in 1988, the Redstone Diary has been a beloved daily tool of creatives. Carefully curated by editor Julian Rothenstein around a yearly theme, the Redstone Diary features work from a wide selection of writers and artists throughout history. The agenda is designed with practicality as well as aesthetics in mind, with sturdy spiral binding and a weekly layout that provides ample space for ones plans.

In 2022, the Redstone Diarys annual theme is In Another World, encouraging us to explore liminal spaces, alternate universes and imaginary timelines that may or may not be possible in reality. As the year progresses, the images and text dispersed among the weeks are by turns evocative and beautiful, intended to provoke thought and yield creative inspiration. Contributions by Yolanda Andrade, Fra Angelico, Hieronymous Bosch, William Blake, Frederick Douglass, Radclyffe Hall, Bodys Isek Kingelez, Fernando Pessoa, Leon Trotsky and Oscar Wilde.

Описание:

On 12th April, 1886, a young woman, dark-eyed and petite, stood in the dock at the Old Bailey charged with the murder of her husband. She was the attractive, French-speaking wife of a South London grocer and of little importance socially, yet her maiden name was unusual, aristocratic even - Adelaide Blanche de la Tremoille. Uncommon, too, was her alleged crime, for her husband, Edwin Bartlett, had died with his stomach full of liquid chloroform, a poison that was more generally associated with cases of suicide or accidental death, not murder. But then, many things about Adelaide were extraordinary. Her name, the crime with which she was charged, the outrageous scenes at her trial - indeed, her whole life - might have sprung from the pages of a far-fetched novel. Even The Times felt moved to declare that 'whether on the theory of guilt or innocence, the whole story is marvellous.' The crowds that flocked to her trial certainly thought so, and their voracious interest was finally rewarded by the sight of her defence counsel, the great Edward Clarke, sobbing with emotion as the verdict was delivered.
