The disciplines of biblical and systematic theology join forces to investigate anew the biblical covenants and the implications of such a study for conclusions in systematic theology.
By incorporating the latest available research from the ancient Near East and examining implications of their work for Christology, ecclesiology, eschatology, and hermeneutics--Biblical scholar Peter Gentry and systematic theologian Stephen Wellum present a thoughtful and viable alternative to both covenant theology and dispensationalism.
Many theological discussions come to an impasse when parties align behind either covenant theology or dispensationalism. But Peter Gentry and Stephen Wellum propose a significant biblical theology of the covenants that avoids the extremes of both classical systems--and holds the potential to resolve the differences. Kingdom through Covenant is a careful exposition of how the biblical covenants unfold and relate to one another, key to understanding the narrative plot structure of the whole Bible. By incorporating the latest available research from the ancient Near East and examining implications of their work for Christology, ecclesiology, eschatology, and hermeneutics, Gentry and Wellum present a thoughtful and viable alternative to both covenant theology and dispensationalism. This second edition features updated and revised content, clarifying key material and staying up to date in the discussion.
If you think that you need to explore these ideas, then it's recommended that you, at the very least, research it. Who knows how many people feel drawn to these philosophies but push them aside in favor of science or materialism? This can be disheartening as popular culture is successful in convincing the masses that spirits aren't real, and that there is no other intelligence inherent in nature.

Living without this relationship in our lives can be seen as a life half lived. All the power, all the knowledge and all the healing available in nature are waiting patiently for our attention. Waiting patiently, but not silently, we hear her call, but do not listen. This is foolishness at its finest.
Why ignore all the insight and potential empowerment that surrounds us? Could this be what's missing in our mundane lives? Could technology benefit from combining its influence with the forces of nature? Is humanity slowly extinguishing itself by eliminating nature? These questions can be contemplated for a lifetime. But as individuals, we can make better choices to benefit ourselves and our fellow man.
In the chapters to come we will explore Wicca and how the religion can lead us to communion with nature, rebuilding a love that is as old as time. We will go over the basics of Wicca's history, practices, gods, goddesses, magic, herbs, crystals and everything in between. These practices are what humans have been performing for untold centuries, ensuring we live harmoniously with nature, empowering ourselves through the forces of the Earth.

Memory and Covenant combines a close reading of texts in the deuteronomic, priestly, and holiness traditions with analysis of ritual and scrutiny of the different terminology used in each tradition regarding memory. Ellman demonstrates that the exploration of the concept of memory is critical to understanding the overall cosmologies, theologies, and religious programs of these distinct traditions. All three regard memory as a vital element of religious practice and as the principal instrument of covenant fidelitybut in very different ways. Ellman shows that for the deuteronomic tradition, memory is an epistemological and pedagogical means for keeping Israel faithful to its God and Gods commandments, even when Israelites are far from the temple and its worship. The priestly tradition, however, understands that the covenant depends on Gods memory, which must be aroused by the sensory stimuli of the temple cult. The holiness school incorporates the priestly idea of sensory memory but places responsibility for remembering on Israel. A subsequent layer of priestly tradition revives the centrality of Gods memory within a thorough-going theology uniting temple worship with creation.

Описание: Encountering Christ in the Covenants has been written for people who are new to covenant theology and want to better understand how the great covenants in Scripture reveal Christ. Readers will be helped by the many references to the Reformed confessions and catechisms which are interspersed throughout the pages of this book. The study questions which follow each chapter are designed so that the book can be used in small group study. "Sometimes we make basic concepts more difficult. 'Covenant' is not only a recurring topic in Scripture, but the way in which the biblical plot is structured. Often it helps when those explaining it have discovered a doctrine rather than inherited it. That is certainly evident in this book. I hope it enjoys a wide readership " -MICHAEL HORTON, J. Gresham Machen Professor of Systematic Theology and Apologetics, Westminster Seminary California. "The revival of interest in the doctrine of the biblical covenants is bearing the fruit of some excellent books on the subject over the past several decades. McManigal has provided a rich coverage of this central doctrine by winsomely presenting his material from a pastoral perspective. The narrative style follows the unfolding biblical story in ten thorough chapters culminating in the new covenant with a surprise ending dealing with the sacraments of baptism and the Lord's Supper. Finally, its christological focus makes it a standout book. I highly recommend this book as a primer in covenant theology for instruction in the local church, but it will also serve well as an apologia to give to those who are unfamiliar with, or perhaps even disagree with, covenant theology. " -DR. GREGORY EDWARD REYNOLDS is the pastor of Amoskeag Presbyterian Church in Manchester, New Hampshire; author of The Word Is Worth a Thousand Pictures: Preaching in the Electronic Age (2001); and editor of Ordained Servant: A Journal for Church Officers. "Pastor Dan McManigal's Encountering Christ in the Covenants introduces the covenantal structure of the whole Bible's story of redemptive history, showing how each advance in God's covenant bond with his people leads closer and closer to Jesus Christ, the mediator of the new covenant and the focus and fulfillment of all the covenants. Encountering Christ combines clear explanation with theological richness, providing spiritual nurture for mind and soul." -DENNIS E. JOHNSON, Ph.D. Professor of Practical Theology, Westminster Seminary California. "Dan McManigal has provided the Church with a much-needed book. The book is a rare balance between solid biblical truth and a writing style that is a delight to read. His chapters flow effortlessly and if the reader wants to ignore the footnotes, he or she may--although I strongly advise you to read them, for they are filled with essential works. The reader will also be greatly aided by the fact that the writing is always in conversation with Scripture. In short, this work offers a valuable tool that explains a key to open and understand the warp and woof of the Word of God" -DR. RON GLEASON, Ph.D. is the pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church in Yorba Linda, California and author of Herman Bavinck: Pastor, Churchman, Statesman, and Theologian (2010).

Описание: The first book in the Covenants Section of the Biblical Evolution Revolution series, delves deep into the Abrahamic Covenant and uses it, rather than the Messianic Covenant, to interpret Old Testament scripture. This singular change reveals an intriguing perspective of the Bible with the hope of generating peace and love between Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. The viewpoint of the author is a direct challenge the mainstream beliefs of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. With the discussion of Islam, the author's perspective of the Quran is used as an intrical part of the prophecy, rather than as an opposing viewpoint. The discussion is candid and in-depth. Specifically, on how the covenants relate to the Jewish Palestinian Conflict as well as the War on Terror. Like all the books in the Biblical Evolution Revolution Series, once you read the book you will never see the world the same way again.
