Описание: Electrochemical Capacitors (ECs) are a class of energy storage device that fill the gap between high energy density batteries and high-power-density electrostatic capacitors. ECs show shorter charge/discharge time and higher power density compared to batteries. However, to use ECs as alternatives to batteries, a significant increase in energy density is required. Although critical to the U.S.s energy future, development of ECs has been hindered by the lack of cost-effective electrode materials that can store more energy. As a cheaper alternative transition metal, manganese (Mn) is abundant and environmentally-friendly. Manganese oxide shows theoretical capacitance of ~800 F g-1, which is comparable to that of RuO2. However, owing to low electronic and ionic conductance, manganese oxide powder exhibits much lower specific capacitances. This book discusses studies of charge-storage mechanism of manganese oxide nanomaterials for ECs. It also discusses sustainable electrode materials made from electrospun alkali lignin-based carbon nanofibres for high performacen supercapacitors; new strategies for the improvement of SC energy density by covalent and non-covalent addition of qunones of carbon surfaces; maganese dioxide based SCs; supercapacitors test methods; and hydrogenated barium titanate films and their potential for integrated SCs.

"Stay Out Of The Woods" is an adventure story about a group of young boys that hang out together. Logan Archer, his cousin Jacob, brothers Jordan and Quinn, and lastly, a boy named Sammy. They are ordinary ten year old boys that live in a small town in the late 1950's. Their trouble started when Logan goes reluctantly into the woods to catch his dog. No-one has been allowed in those woods since a meteor fell there. Logan ran out of there as fast as he could when he saw a man with a gun look up at him. He told his friends that he saw a strange building and men with guns while he was in the woods. They don't believe him so, even though he's afraid, he takes them in to show them.

The boys eventually see what Logan had seen. They were afraid to tell their parents since they knew they weren't supposed to be there. They decide to investigate on their own. The boys make a pact to not tell any grown-up about this until they know what's going on. They decide to try to get information from anyone that might help them put the pieces of the mystery together.

While Logan is in the library, he overhears two men discussing their plans to break into the building in the woods. They want to get whatever they can from the meteor and information from the scientists that are there. They are spies and their country hopes to use its alloys to make weapons.

About the Author:

John Mullan was born in Detroit, Michigan, saw his first parade on VE Day in 1945, and decided to become a Marine when he was ten years old. With a family move, he entered a new school and quickly learned how to be a loner--to be alone and make it on his own. He joined the Marine Corps at age seventeen, met his future wife on his first leave home, and married three years later. After a variety of assignments, he landed the perfect position of recruiter back home. Orders for Vietnam in 1967 resulted in five months of battle experience, three Purple Hearts, and severe injuries including brain damage which required many years of recovery. John considers being retired from the Marine Corps to be the single worst event in his life, but he put his life back together. After completing college, he held a position with the U.S. Post Office for over twenty years and raised four children with his wife Catherine. Awarded the Bronze Star with combat V, John remains devoted to the Marine Corps.
