Описание:

The book charts how reliability engineering has moved from the use of sometimes arbitrary standards to an empirical scientific approach of understanding operating conditions, failure mechanisms, the need for testing for a more realistic characterisation and, new for the second edition, includes the monitoring of performance/robustness in the field.

Reliability Characterisation of Electrical and Electronic Systems brings together a number of experts and key players in the discipline to concisely present the fundamentals and background to reliability theory, elaborate on the current thinking and developments behind reliability characterisation, and give a detailed account of emerging issues across a wide range of applications.

The second edition has a new section titled Reliability Condition Monitoring and Prognostics for Specific Application which provides a guide to critical issues in key industrial sectors such as automotive and aerospace. There are also new chapters on areas of growing importance such as reliability methods in high-temperature electronics and reliability and testing of electric aircraft power systems.

Описание: Signals need to be separated in time, space, or frequency to prevent multiple transmissions from overlapping and interfering with one another. FDMA and TDMA techniques attempt to separate transmissions into different frequency bands and time slices, respectively. These systems allow multiple users in a single area to communicate without data collisions. However, networks can also be physically separated by space to prevent data collisions. In such cases, users can communicate at the same time on the same channel, so long as they are in different networks in different places. A cellular network or mobile network is a communication network where the last link is wireless. Wireless cellular networks are an integral part of modern telecommunication systems. Today it is hard to imagine our life without the use of such networks. Nevertheless, the development, implementation and operation of these networks require engineers and scientists to address a number of interrelated problems. The network is distributed over land areas called cells, each served by at least one fixed-location transceiver, known as a cell site or base station. This base station provides the cell with the network coverage which can be used for transmission of voice, data and others. Each cell has different frequency characteristics. This means that frequencies can be reused by non-adjacent cells without causing interference. User equipment (UE), such as mobile phones, is therefore able to communicate even if the equipment is moving through cells during transmission. Cellular networks give subscribers advanced features over alternative solutions, including increased capacity, small battery power usage, a larger geographical coverage area and reduced interference from other signals. Popular cellular technologies include the Global System for Mobile Communication, general packet radio service, 3GSM and code division multiple access. This book entitled Cellular Networks - Positioning, Performance Analysis, Reliability will be useful to researches in academic and industry and also to post-graduate students in telecommunication specialitiies.

Описание: Micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) is a technology that combines computers with tiny mechanical devices such as sensors, valves, gears, mirrors, and actuators embedded in semiconductor chips. Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems, or MEMS, is a technology that in its most general form can be defined as miniaturized mechanical and electro-mechanical elements (i.e., devices and structures) that are made using the techniques of microfabrication. The critical physical dimensions of MEMS devices can vary from well below one micron on the lower end of the dimensional spectrum, all the way to several millimeters. Likewise, the types of MEMS devices can vary from relatively simple structures having no moving elements, to extremely complex electromechanical systems with multiple moving elements under the control of integrated microelectronics. The one main criterion of MEMS is that there are at least some elements having some sort of mechanical functionality whether or not these elements can move. MEMS are already used as accelerometers in automobile air-bags. They have replaced a less reliable device at lower cost and show promise of being able to inflate a bag not only on the basis of sensed deceleration but also on the basis of the size of the person they are protecting. Basically, a MEMS device contains micro-circuitry on a tiny silicon chip into which some mechanical device such as a mirror or a sensor has been manufactured. Potentially, such chips can be built in large quantities at low cost, making them costeffective for many uses. Over the past several decades MEMS researchers and developers have demonstrated an extremely large number of microsensors for almost every possible sensing modality including temperature, pressure, inertial forces, chemical species, magnetic fields, radiation, etc. Remarkably, many of these micromachined sensors have demonstrated performances exceeding those of their macroscale counterparts. That is, the micromachined version of, for instance, a pressure transducer, usually outperforms a pressure sensor made using the most precise macroscale level machining techniques. Not only is the performance of MEMS devices exceptional, but their method of production leverages the same batch fabrication techniques used in the integrated circuit industry which can translate into low per-device production costs, as well as many other benefits. This book entitled Micro Electronic and Mechanical Systems deliberates significant aspects of MEMS technology areas that present the latest research developments in micro electronic and mechanical systems. The book states a wide range of fundamental and practical issues related to MEMS, advanced metal-oxidesemiconductor (MOS) and complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) devices, SoC technology, integrated circuit testing and verification, and other significant issues in the field.
