Описание:

Using theory, applications, and examples of inferences, Niche Modeling: Predictions from Statistical Distributions demonstrates how to conduct and evaluate niche modeling projects in any area of application. It features a series of theoretical and practical exercises for developing and evaluating niche models using the R statistics language. The author discusses applications of predictive modeling methods with reference to valid inferences from assumptions. He elucidates varied and simplified examples with rigor and completeness. Topics include geographic information systems, multivariate modeling, artificial intelligence methods, data handling, and information infrastructure.

Above all, successful niche modeling requires a deep understanding of the process of creating and using probability. Off-the-shelf statistical packages are tailored exactly to applications but can hide problematic complexities. Recipe book implementations fail to educate users in the details, assumptions, and pitfalls of analysis, but may be able to adapt to the specific needs of each study. Examining the sources of errors such as autocorrelation, bias, long term persistence, nonlinearity, circularity, and fraud, this seminal reference provides an understanding of the limitations and potential pitfalls of prediction, emphasizing the importance of avoiding errors.

Combining empirical physiology and nonlinear dynamics, this text provides an introduction to the simulation and modeling of dynamic phenomena in cell biology and neuroscience. It introduces mathematical modeling techniques alongside cellular electrophysiology. Topics include membrane transport and diffusion, the biophysics of excitable membranes, the gating of voltage and ligand-gated ion channels, intracellular calcium signalling, and electrical bursting in neurons and other excitable cell types. Описание: This title describes "Modelica", a modelling language that can be used to simulate both continuous and discrete behaviour, It provides the necessary background to develop Modelica models of almost any physical system. The author starts with basic differential equations from several engineering domains and describes how these equations can be used to create reusable component models. Next, he describes techniques for modelling complex non-linear behaviour, exploiting the powerful array handling features and mixing continuous and discrete behaviour.

The second part of the book focuses on effective use of all the language features provided by the Modelica modelling language. This includes, among other things, discussions on maximizing the reusability of component models being developed, managing the model development process, and making models as computationally efficient as possible. The book includes a companion CD-ROM with the Modelica source code for all examples as well as an evaluation copy of Dymola.

Using Dymola, readers can immediately begin to explore the dynamics of the models included with the book or to develop their own models. Nearly 100 examples of mechanical, electrical, biological, chemical, thermal and hydraulic models are included.

Описание: This book is unique to be the only one completely dedicated for battery modeling for all components of battery management system (BMS) applications. The contents of this book compliment the multitude of research publications in this domain by providing coherent fundamentals. An explosive market of Li ion batteries has led to aggressive demand for mathematical models for battery management systems (BMS). Researchers from multi-various backgrounds contribute from their respective background, leading to a lateral growth. Risk of this runaway situation is that researchers tend to use an existing method or algorithm without in depth knowledge of the cohesive fundamentals—often misinterpreting the outcome. It is worthy to note that the guiding principles are similar and the lack of clarity impedes a significant advancement. A repeat or even a synopsis of all the applications of battery modeling albeit redundant, would hence be a mammoth task, and cannot be done in a single offering. The authors believe that a pivotal contribution can be made by explaining the fundamentals in a coherent manner. Such an offering would enable researchers from multiple domains appreciate the bedrock principles and forward the frontier.Battery is an electrochemical system, and any level of understanding cannot ellipse this premise. The common thread that needs to run across—from detailed electrochemical models to algorithms used for real time estimation on a microchip—is that it be physics based. Build on this theme, this book has three parts. Each part starts with developing a framework—often invoking basic principles of thermodynamics or transport phenomena—and ends with certain verified real time applications. The first part deals with electrochemical modeling and the second with model order reduction. Objective of a BMS is estimation of state and health, and the third part is dedicated for that. Rules for state observers are derived from a generic Bayesian framework, and health estimation is pursued using machine learning (ML) tools. A distinct component of this book is thorough derivations of the learning rules for the novel ML algorithms. Given the large-scale application of ML in various domains, this segment can be relevant to researchers outside BMS domain as well. The authors hope this offering would satisfy a practicing engineer with a basic perspective, and a budding researcher with essential tools on a comprehensive understanding of BMS models.

Описание: This book contains examples and exercises with modeling problems together with complete solutions. The contents is tailored to the book Ljung-Glad: Modeling and Identification of Dynamic Systems (Studentlitteratur, 2016). The exercises are of different levels of difficulty and cover general modeling principles (such as bond graphs) as well as practical tools like Modelica and Simscape. System identification, model and signal properties are also covered together with basic techniques for simulation. Most of the problems deal with issues from industrial applications, but also economic, social and medical cases are covered. The text requires certain knowledge in linear algebra, signal and systems and basic familiarity with physics and statistics. The computer exercises assume access to basic software such as Matlab and Simulink, and to some extent Modelica/Dymola/Simscape. The book is suitable for Master level courses in engineering, but also for practicing engineers.

Описание: Multilevel Structural Equation Modeling by Bruno Castanho Silva, Constantin Manuel Bosancianu, and Levente Littvay serves as a minimally technical overview of multilevel structural equation modeling (MSEM) for applied researchers and advanced graduate students in the social sciences. As the first book of its kind, this title is an accessible, hands-on introduction for beginners of the topic. The authors predict a growth in this area, fueled by both data availability and also the availability of new and improved software to run these models. The applied approach, combined with a graphical presentation style and minimal reliance on complex matrix algebra guarantee that this volume will be useful to social science graduate students wanting to utilize such models.

Описание:

This book focuses on modeling the anomalous diffusion phenomena, being ubiquitous in the natural world. Both the microscopic models (stochastic processes) and macroscopic models (partial differential equations) have been built up. The relationships between the two kinds of models are clarified, and based on these models, some statistical observables are analyzed. From statistics to mathematics, the built models show their power with their associated applications.

This book is important for students to develop basic skills to be able to succeed in their future research. In addition to introducing the related models or methods, it also provides the corresponding applications and simulation results, which will attract more readers ranging from mathematicians to physicists or chemists, to name a few.
