Описание: In Once Upon a Time in Biafra, the prolific Nigerian historian Onianwa Oluchukwu Ignatus has produced an unprecedented study of prominent individuals from across the globe who visited the Republic of Biafra and Federal side of the Nigerian Civil War of 1967-1970. This innovative new study contributes much to restoring the memory of the civil war, which has faded in recent decades. There is no better way to take a glimpse of how life was in Biafra as well as the Federal side of the war other than a careful study of reports of those who visited these troubled areas.Apart from those who were on ground and participated actively in the civil war, the reports of those who visited war territories offer another major source for historians to understand wartime life experiences on both sides. Individual reports analyzed in this book include reports presented to both the British and United States governments, some official visitors sent by their nations and others invited guests of either the Biafran government or the Federal military government of Nigeria. They included parliamentarians, journalists, medical personnel, government officials, and religious leaders, among others.Reportage about life on both sides of the Nigerian Civil War, particularly in Biafra, is striking commentary on wartime experiences that have become part of the historiography and memory of the Nigerian Civil War. As Ignatus explains, these experiences of foreigners have helped to define the legacies of that conflict with regard to individual contributions and the roles of both civilians and military personnel. Observation of everyday life serves as a way of understanding how people lived and adapted to conflict situations, and offers an equally worthy guide for efforts towards healing the war’s enduring wounds.
Having grown up during the Nigeria-Biafra civil war, Dr. Anselm Chibuike Anyoha gives a realistic view of what children had to endure during these tough times. Seen through the eyes of a child, it shows how children perceive issues differently than adults. Not only does this historical fiction story show the point of view of children, but it also shows the point of view from the enemy, the Conscriptors. This dramatic retelling of a real historical event shows the different ways people can be affected by wars.

Описание: In this intrepid study, noted Nigerian historian Onianwa Oluchukwu Ignatus investigates the air war component of the Nigerian-Biafran War, a crucial postcolonial conflict in Africa. It focuses on the Biafra’s air operations against oil installations and facilities owned by multinational oil companies in Nigeria. In addition to exploring global airpower historiography, this study explores the tactical aspects of how the renewed air war changed the military equation of the conflict when both sides were at loggerheads in peace settlement and relief arrangements. This episode was important in postcolonial military history of Africa, when modern air weapons were developed at the local level for offensive military capability. While the air operations of the Biafrans were sporadic yet destructive, they caused considerable damage to public utilities in Nigeria. Internally, the air attacks paved the way for internal disturbances in the oil producing areas by damaging oil companies’ activities and the reducing foreign investment. Externally, it caused a loss of confidence in Nigeria. The Biafran air offensive proved to be the key strategy in Nigeria’s response to the crisis, which focused on neutralizing Biafran airpower.

Описание: This book gives a general overview of the issues. disagreements, and conflicts that led to the Nigeria-Biafra civil war. Although the Igbo race became the victim of the 1966 crisis that started with leadership struggles among Yoruba leaders, Igbos have been, both to themselves and other Nigerians, made to look like the villains. This book, strives to show the real villains, based on concrete historical facts and not on propaganda and distortions of facts. Information from previously classified documents has shed more light on such questions as: What led to the war? Was there a calculated genocide planned against the Igbos? Why did the Northern Nigerian leaders not stop the pogrom on the easterners and mid-western Igbos? What roles did Yakubu Gowon, Murtala Muhammed, Theophilus Danjuma, Muhammadu Buhari, Shehu Yar' Adua, Ibrahim Babangida, Sanegeria (Sani) Abacha, and others play in the crisis and the subsequent mass killing of Igbos? To some historians, the war started with the genocide against the Igbos in northern Nigeria. To others, it started with the failure of the Aburi accord. All these opinions and perspectives are presented in this book.

The massacre of Igbos/Biafrans across the Northern Nigeria started way back in 1945 in Jos, where more than 150 Igbos/Biafrans were brutally slaughtered for no reason. That is about thirty-one years after the fraudulent amalgamation of Islamic north and Christian south by the British. Prior to the Civil War in 1966 pogrom, over sixty thousand civilians were brutally murdered because they were Igbos/Biafrans and Christians living in the north. "One by one, the Igbo people who were sheltered in the Emir's Palace were dragged out with hands and feet tied. An unsharpened knife was used on purpose in cutting the neck to ensure a slow and painful death. Goats do not receive such wicked treatment during slaughter; neither does a chicken. Tired and in pain, the victim gave up the ghost while asking for water in Igbo language: 'Nye m Mmiri, ' literally expressing 'Give me water.' Families watched as they each gave up the ghost. Since then, the Hausa-Fulani people have adulterated the expression into 'nyamiri' as a form of mockery to the Igbos."
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) are the remnants of people that survived the genocide of 1967-70, where more than 3.5 million Biafrans were brutally slaughtered by the Nigerian State. These remnants of Biafran people have not only resided in every nook and corner of the said Nigeria but also have scattered all over the planet earth in quest for green pasture. Those who understand the true meaning of freedom fighting know that IPOB is here to get Biafra and nothing more. Those who read history know that every successful freedom fighting have always started from outside. The method, strategy, and mode of its execution have never been seen anywhere on this planet earth, and that is why Biafra is going to be restored. Buhari remains the last standing samurai/pharaoh of the uneducated northern oligarchy with the boldness to attempt to implement the Hausa-Fulani Islamic agenda to the shores of Atlantic Ocean, but he must fail. The leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has always said, "They would kill us, we will kill them, and then Biafra will come."
