DID is in eerste instantie bedoeld om te sturen op de kwaliteit van informatie, en om te zorgen dat deze informatie effectief wordt ingezet. Het DID framework is ontwikkeld om te helpen tijdens het ontwerp van business informatie services om te bepalen wat je nodig hebt, en wanneer je het nodig hebt.
