Описание: Among the most important sources for understanding the cultures and systems of thought of ancient Mesopotamia is a large body of magical and medical texts written in the Sumerian and Akkadian languages. An especially significant branch of this literature centers upon witchcraft. Mesopotamian anti-witchcraft rituals and incantations attribute ill-health and misfortune to the magic machinations of witches and prescribe ceremonies, devices, and treatments for dispelling witchcraft, destroying the witch, and protecting and curing the patient. The Corpus of Mesopotamian Anti-Witchcraft Rituals aims to present a reconstruction of this body of texts; it provides critical editions of the relevant rituals and prescriptions based on the study of the cuneiform tablets and fragments recovered from the libraries of ancient Mesopotamia.

Описание: Among the most important sources for understanding the cultures, religions, and systems of thought of ancient Mesopotamia is the large corpus of magical and medical texts directed against witchcraft. The most important of these texts is the Akkadian series Maqlu (“Burning”).

This volume offers a collection of studies on Mesopotamian witchcraft and Maqlu written subsequent to the appearance of the author’s 2002 collection of studies on witchcraft (Brill, 2002). Many of the studies reprinted here take a diachronic approach to individual incantations and rituals and attempt to solve textual difficulties using literary-critical and/or text-critical approaches.

Описание:

THE MESOPOTAMIAN TALE, compact companion to EVOLUTION DIVERTED, contains the story at the heart of that book. The story, woven from texts and images unearthed from the ruins of ancient Mesopotamian cities (in present day Iraq), covers the age that began with events leading to the extraordinary birth of our kind...the age that ended as the religion of the olden gods began to fade away.

THE MESOPOTAMIAN TALE disputes the conventional view that the Mesopotamian literature is all myth. It takes the stories of the gods at face value...accepting that the rulers of the region were powerful flesh and blood humanoids who'd come to Earth, not deities existing solely in human imagination. That, of course, was the nature of the mythical Greek and Roman gods, many of whom were modeled on the living gods of Mesopotamia, after they had left Earth.

The accounts assembled in this work were found in fragmentary form in tens of thousands of artifacts. Piecing together texts separated from each other by time, distance, and language, and translated by numerous scholars, was a process based in an intuitive feel for a vital narrative running, like a red thread, through them all. Admittedly, the process involved as much art as science. This author hopes that in time scholars and scientists will confirm that THE MESOPOTAMIAN TALE has been accurately and truthfully abstracted from the vast archaeological findings.

In EVOLUTION DIVERTED, the saga of the Mesopotamian deities is explored at length, citing source material and relevant science. In contrast, this book's commentary is brief, aiming primarily to show how the story has the potential to lay bare the roots of humanity's suffering, for in the long rule of the olden gods we can discern the origins of the deeply troubled state of civilization.

A principle shared by wisdom traditions, philosophers, and clinicians holds that you cannot solve your problems if you don't know who you are...and that you can't know who you are if you don't know your origins. As it is for one person, so it is for our kinds. If memory for our extraordinary beginnings is restored, revelations about our selves will lead us in new directions. EVOLUTION DIVERTED envisions a way out of civilized humanity's trap.

Yet this book doesn't try to bolster the credibility of the narrative it presents. It doesn't try to elaborate how our troubled state would be relieved if we were to emerge from mass amnesia. Those tasks are taken up in EVOLUTION DIVERTED. This book's intention is less ambitious. Its commentaries are directed at two critical points in time: when monotheism began to rise; and the present, when we are making choices that will determine the fate of our species and our world.

Описание: The Comparable Body - Analogy and Metaphor in Ancient Mesopotamian, Egyptian, and Greco-Roman Medicine explores how analogy and metaphor illuminate and shape conceptions about the human body and disease, through 11 case studies from ancient Mesopotamian, Egyptian, and Greco-Roman medicine. Topics address the role of analogy and metaphor as features of medical culture and theory, while questioning their naturalness and inevitability, their limits, their situation between the descriptive and the prescriptive, and complexities in their portrayal as a mutually intelligible medium for communication and consensus among users.

Описание: This book would not have been possible without the existence of that brilliant, vivid, bright, superb, wonderful, luminous, radiant, and very beautiful person whom the authors simply refer to as Mum, or in their Aramaic (Syriac) language, ܐܡܐ. Their mother was always there for them as they went through the highs and lows of their lives, always encouraging and helping them throughout her life, and this help continued even when the authors became adults. She continued to be a source of great help until she answered Gods call and went into her eternal sleep on that Wednesday afternoon in March of 2016.This book is written by her five children and is an attempt to keep o Bathqyomo Marine Khoury-Issas memory alive. The idea of this book came to the authors as they remembered that their mother usually encouraged them to pursue their dreams, and she (together with their father) worked very hard to help them reach different milestones in their lives despite the immense difficulties that they faced. Therefore, the authors thought of sharing with others through the pages of this book some of what their mother had taught them, how she made them aware of the plight of everyone around them. Indeed, what their mother used to do throughout her life came naturally and was welcomed by all. Her children felt the way she dealt with them and all those whom she knew was something unique to her, as it came directly from her beautiful heart and delightful soul. It was the magic of her beautiful smile, the kindness of her heart and the selfless actions that she was known for, as she felt being an Orthodox priests wife has immense responsibilities of being with the happy, the grieving, the sick, the gravely ill, the displaced, those who belonged to her church and others from outside the church, providing for all of them in a way that was calm, comforting and seamless.Their mother hailed from Mesopotamia, the land between the two rivers. Mesopotamia is the place that is referred to as the Cradle of Western Civilization. Therefore, it is worthwhile to mention in this book some of the literature that talks about this great civilization that their parents brought them nearer to by what they taught, told and asked the authors to read in history books. The recipes included in this book were taught to the authors by their mother, and thus have a Mesopotamian origin. This book is dedicated to the authors mother, Bathqyomo Marine Khoury-Issa, with her unique characteristics as a spouse, mother and matriarch of the Issa family. Her care put continues to exist in the food she used to cook (both main dishes and sweets), the care she gave to the garden, the way she faced life and the way she welcomed people into her home and family.

Описание: In Early Mesopotamian Divination Literature: Its Organizational Framework and Generative and Paradigmatic Characteristics, Abraham Winitzer provides a detailed study of the Akkadian Old Babylonian (ca. 2000-1600 BC) omen collections stemming from extispicy, the most significant Mesopotamian divination technique for most of that civilization’s history. Paying close attention to these texts’ organizational structure, Winitzer details the mechanics responsible for their origins and development, and highlights key characteristics of a conceptual framework that helped reconfigure Mesopotamian divination into a literature in line with significant, new forms of literary expression from the same time. This literature, Winitzer concludes, represents an early form of scientific reasoning that began to appreciate the centrality of texts and textual interpretation in this civilization’s production, organization, and conception of knowledge.

Описание: From the primal chaos of Tiamat, the Gods of Order and Conquering obstacles Marduk, Ishtar and Adad; Underworld Gods including Nergal and Ereskigal to demons and spirits such as Pazuzu, Lilitu, Ardat Lili, Lamastu and the Seven Udug-Hul, Sebitti is a gateway into ancient Babylonian (the gate of the gods) powers.Sebitti guides the Kassapu (warlock or sorcerer) in the most effective methods of understanding and invoking Deific Masks (gods, demons & spirits) of ancient Mesopotamia. From ancient Sumerian, Akkadian, Babylonian and Neo-Assyrian tablets and temple invocations, Michael W. Ford presents a modern approach to these primal powers inherent in nature and humanity. Luciferians embrace sorcery and primal forces, inherent within nature and the self in order to expand consciousness and personal power. The theory and practice of ancient sorcery is outlined for the modern practitioner and is presented to awaken the desires of our current time. Today we balance spiritual symbolism and objective reason to fuel our transformation towards the power and potential as individuals. Presented first is the modern Luciferian philosophical foundation, followed by a study of the ancient practice of Sorcery in Mesopotamia. The Sebitti unveils demonology and spells invoking primal forces and is beautifully illustrated by Kitti Solymosi with Nestor Avalos. It is an authentic presentation of the sigils and cuneiform symbols represented in ancient Mesopotamia. This grimoire is a gateway into the ancient cults of dark power guided by the Black Flame.
