Synchronous Generators, the first of two volumes in the Electric Generators Handbook, offers a thorough introduction to electrical energy and electricity generation, including the basic principles of electric generators. The book devotes a chapter to the most representative prime mover models for transients used in active control of various generators. Then, individual chapters explore large- and medium-power synchronous generator topologies, steady state, modeling, transients, control, design, and testing. Numerous case studies, worked-out examples, sample results, and illustrations highlight the concepts.
Fully revised and updated to reflect the last decade's worth of progress in the field, this Second Edition adds new sections that:
Discuss high-power wind generators with fewer or no permanent magnets (PMs)
Cover PM-assisted DC-excited salient pole synchronous generators
Present multiphase synchronous machine inductances via the winding function method
Consider the control of autonomous synchronous generators
Examine additional optimization design issues
Illustrate the optimal design of a large wind generator by the Hooke-Jeeves method
Detail the magnetic equivalent circuit population-based optimal design of synchronous generators
Address online identification of synchronous generator parameters

Описание: In this book the dynamics of the non-ideal oscillatory system, in which the excitation is influenced by the response of the oscillator, is presented. Linear and nonlinear oscillators with one or more degrees of freedom interacting with one or more energy sources are treated. This concerns for example oscillating systems excited by a deformed elastic connection, systems excited by an unbalanced rotating mass, systems of parametrically excited oscillator and an energy source, frictionally self-excited oscillator and an energy source, energy harvesting system, portal frame – non-ideal source system, non-ideal rotor system, planar mechanism – non-ideal source interaction. For the systems the regular and irregular motions are tested. The effect of self-synchronization, chaos and methods for suppressing chaos in non-ideal systems are considered. In the book various types of motion control are suggested. The most important property of the non-ideal system connected with the jump-like transition from a resonant state to a non-resonant one is discussed. The so called ‘Sommerfeld effect’, resonant unstable state and jumping of the system into a new stable state of motion above the resonant region is explained. A mathematical model of the system is solved analytically and numerically. Approximate analytical solving procedures are developed. Besides, simulation of the motion of the non-ideal system is presented. The obtained results are compared with those for the ideal case. A significant difference is evident. The book aims to present the established results and to expand the literature in non-ideal vibrating systems. A further intention of the book is to give predictions of the effects for a system where the interaction between an oscillator and the energy source exist. The book is targeted at engineers and technicians dealing with the problem of source-machine system, but is also written for PhD students and researchers interested in non-linear and non-ideal problems.

This volume presents the theory of control systems with sliding mode applied to electrical motors and power converters. It demonstrates the methodology of control design and the original algorithms of control and observation. Practically all semiconductor devices are used in power converters, that feed electrical motors, as power switches. A switching mode offers myriad attractive, inherent properties from a control viewpoint, especially a sliding mode. Sliding mode control supplies high dynamics to systems, invariability of systems to changes of their parameters and of exterior loads in combination with simplicity of design. Unlike linear control, switching sliding mode control does not replace the control system, but uses the natural properties of the control plant system effectively to ensure high control quality.
This is the first text that thoroughly describes the application of the highly theoretical control design approach to synchronous drives in practice. It examines in detail the different features of various types of synchronous motors and converters with regard to sliding mode control design. It further presents a detailed analysis of control issues and mechanical coordinate observation design for various types of synchronous motors, of power converters, and various drive control structures. It also discusses the digital implementation of control, observation and identification algorithms. The potential of sliding mode control and observation are moreover demonstrated in numerical and experimental results from real control plants.
This work is intended for professionals and advanced students who work in the field of electric drive control. It is also recommended to experts in control theory application, who work with sliding modes for the control of electrical motors and power converters.

Analysis of Synchronous Machines, Second Edition is a thoroughly modern treatment of an old subject. Courses generally teach about synchronous machines by introducing the steady-state per phase equivalent circuit without a clear, thorough presentation of the source of this circuit representation, which is a crucial aspect. Taking a different approach, this book provides a deeper understanding of complex electromechanical drives.
Focusing on the terminal rather than on the internal characteristics of machines, the book begins with the general concept of winding functions, describing the placement of any practical winding in the slots of the machine. This representation enables readers to clearly understand the calculation of all relevant self- and mutual inductances of the machine. It also helps them to more easily conceptualize the machine in a rotating system of coordinates, at which point they can clearly understand the origin of this important representation of the machine.
Provides numerical examples
Addresses Park's equations starting from winding functions
Describes operation of a synchronous machine as an LCI motor drive
Presents synchronous machine transient simulation, as well as voltage regulation
Applying his experience from more than 30 years of teaching the subject at the University of Wisconsin, author T.A. Lipo presents the solution of the circuit both in classical form using phasor representation and also by introducing an approach that applies MathCAD(R), which greatly simplifies and expands the average student's problem-solving capability. The remainder of the text describes how to deal with various types of transients--such as constant speed transients--as well as unbalanced operation and faults and small signal modeling for transient stability and dynamic stability.
Finally, the author addresses large signal modeling using MATLAB(R)/Simulink(R), for complete solution of the non-linear equations of the salient pole synchronous machine. A valuable tool for learning, this updated edition offers thoroughly revised content, adding new detail and better-quality figures.

Описание: Algorithms are the essence of programming. After their construction, they have to be translated to the codes of a specific programming language. There exists a maximum of ten basic algorithmic templates. This textbook aims to provide the reader with a more convenient and efficient method to create a program by translating algorithms, template by template with C++ and Java. This is the slogan of the book: You will be a professional programmer whenever you become a skilled algorithm designer. This book attempts to gradually strengthen the readers’ ability to identify and analyze the mental commands which are issued and implemented in their brains for solving the problems in which mathematical computations are applied and try to design an algorithm based on their understanding and analyses. It then seeks to encourage the readers to develop their skills in algorithm-writing for computational problems and synchronously teach them to translate the algorithms into C++ and Java codes using the least necessary keywords.
