Описание:
This innovative book proposes a unique and original perspective on the nature of the mind and how phenomenal consciousness may arise in a physical world. From simple sentient organisms to complex self-reflective systems, Faye argues for a naturalistic-evolutionary approach to philosophy of mind and consciousness. Drawing on substantial literature in evolutionary biology and cognitive science, this book offers a promising alternative to the major theories of the mind-body problem: the quality of our experiences should not, as some philosophers have claimed, be associated with subjectivity that is not open for scientific explanation, nor should it be associated with intrinsic properties of the brain. Instead, Faye argues that mental properties are extrinsic properties of the brain caused by the organism’s interaction with its environment. Taking on the explanatory gap, and rejecting the ontological pluralism of present naturalist theories of the mind, Faye thus proposes a unified view of reality in which it is possible to explain qualitative mental presentations as part of the physical world.

Описание: In On What Matters Derek Parfit argues that there are objective moral truths, and other normative truths about what we have reasons to believe, and to want, and to do. He further argues that if he is wrong, nihilism follows, and nothing matters. In Does Anything Really Matter? leading philosophers present a fascinating set of responses to Parfit.

Описание:

An account of the emergence of the mind: how the brain acquired self-awareness, functional autonomy, the ability to think, and the power of speech.

How did the human mind emerge from the collection of neurons that makes up the brain? How did the brain acquire self-awareness, functional autonomy, language, and the ability to think, to understand itself and the world? In this volume in the Essential Knowledge series, Zoltan Torey offers an accessible and concise description of the evolutionary breakthrough that created the human mind.

Drawing on insights from evolutionary biology, neuroscience, and linguistics, Torey reconstructs the sequence of events by which Homo erectus became Homo sapiens. He describes the augmented functioning that underpins the emergent mind -- a new ("off-line") internal response system with which the brain accesses itself and then forms a selection mechanism for mentally generated behavior options. This functional breakthrough, Torey argues, explains how the animal brain's "awareness" became self-accessible and reflective -- that is, how the human brain acquired a conscious mind. Consciousness, unlike animal awareness, is not a unitary phenomenon but a composite process. Torey's account shows how protolanguage evolved into language, how a brain subsystem for the emergent mind was built, and why these developments are opaque to introspection. We experience the brain's functional autonomy, he argues, as free will.

Torey proposes that once life began, consciousness had to emerge -- because consciousness is the informational source of the brain's behavioral response. Consciousness, he argues, is not a newly acquired "quality," "cosmic principle," "circuitry arrangement," or "epiphenomenon," as others have argued, but an indispensable working component of the living system's manner of functioning.

Описание: An Eth rapie(TM) session is a dialogue between your cellular memory and your conscious mind made possible by an Eth rapie(TM) practitioner. By the end of the consultation, the various causes of stress, malaise, and the roots of unhappiness are identified and reparative processes are put in place. Eth rapie(TM) is a humanistic approach; It also takes into consideration the fact that life is a perpetual change. Eth rapie(TM) adjusts to both the societal and energetical context. 2012 marked the beginning of profound changes. In astrology we are in a very significant transitional period, related to the installation of the Aquarian Age. From a systemic point of view, we are in a phase of necessary chaos for the evolution of the system. Therefore, Eth rapie(TM), indeed, recontextualizes the approach, or "movement". Above all, Eth rapie(TM) is a holistic care living system, as Life is a perpetual motion itself. Paris-based expert therapists, Pascale & Marc Polizzi, Eth rapie(TM) founders, propose individual consultations for life coaching or brief therapy. They also provide external supervision for experienced practitioners, coaches and therapists. Their Transpersonal, systemic and Sophia-therapist approach gives a rare and complementary axis compared to other approaches. Etherapie.fr

Описание: Have you heard about systems thinkers, and do you want to learn more about them? Are you interested in improving your behavioral and cognitive abilities to assess circumstances?

If yes, this is the right book for you

A system is composed of interacting parts and relationships. Every part affects the others and is affected by the other parts.

Systemic thinking is wide-view thinking that entails changing one's set of paradigms.

It has evolved since the 20th century as an area of study and practice.

Systems that think as they do in modern times have been around for approximately 60 years, but they have only had a relatively broad audience among non-scientists within the last decade or so.

Thinking structures is a way to look at things, individuals, and organizations worldwide. It consists of principles and methods that give system-thinkers a new, potentially expanding worldview rather than a series of static methodologies or theories.

Thinkers of structures prefer to consider the environment as a series of ongoing interactions, changes, and processes. Systems thinking can extend to almost any field, including businesses, computers, social organizations, the human mind, and computer systems, which we want to understand better.

Self-described system thinkers use a vibrant science and non-scientific literature base consisting of the theories, processes, and philosophies of systems.

The resulting new "mesh" organization is expected to improve the use of resources and management effectiveness through more efficient and imaginative systems and technologies.

This book covers:

  • Essential thinking skills
  • Mental models
  • Solving problems and decision-making
  • Managing chaos
  • Take control over your thought patterns
  • Logic, analytical and critical thinking

...And much more
