This book presents studies and discussions on anionic redox, which can be used to boost the capacities of cathode electrodes by providing extra electron transfer. This theoretically and practically significant book facilitates the implementation of anionic redox in electrodes for real-world use and accelerates the development of high-energy-density lithium-ion batteries.
Lithium-ion batteries, as energy storage systems, are playing a more and more important role in powering modern society. However, their energy density is still limited by the low specific capacity of the cathode electrodes. Based on a profound understanding of band theory, the author has achieved considerable advances in tuning the redox process of lithium-rich electrodes to obtain enhanced electrochemical performance, identifying both the stability mechanism of anionic redox in lithium-rich cathode materials, and its activation mechanism in these electrode systems.

Описание: Over the years the field of anionic polymerization has attracted numerous outstanding scientists, and today it still is being pursued by many researchers all over the world. The exciting discovery of termination-less polymerization processes and living polymers culminating in the development of narrow molecular weight polymers, star polymers, and tailor-made block and graft copolymers, contributed immensely to the rapid expansion of polymer science. Areas of active research in anionic polymerization presently include the structure of ion pairs and their role in regulating polymer structure, ring opening polymerization of heterocyclic monomers, synthesis of well-defined block and graft copolymers including the application of macromers in such systems, telechelic polymers with functional end groups, and other topics. New developments in the organic chemistry of carbanions such as dipolar carbanions impinge on the field of anionic polymerization. More sophisticated characterization techniques have been instrumental in obtaining better correlations between the structure of polymers and that of intermediates leading to their formation. This book contains the proceedings of the international symposium on "Recent Advances in Anionic Polymerization and Related Processes" which was held at the 1986 spring meeting of the American Chemical Society. It was the first Polymer Division-sponsored meeting exclusively devoted to anionic polymerization since the Houston ACS meeting in the spring of 1980. The proceedings of that meeting were published in the book "Anionic Polymerization", ACS Symposium Series No. 166, edited by Dr. J. E. McGrath.

Описание: This compilation begins by discussing Sn, Sb and Ge-based anodes. Various approaches for alleviating volume changes corresponding to each kind of anode are presented in regards to the last 20 years. Sn, Sb and Ge-based alloy-type anodes have attracted considerable research interest as promising candidates for next-generation LIBs due to their high theoretical capacities, suitable operating voltages and natural abundances. Next, the authors discuss the synthesis and application of Titanium dioxide (TiO2) based lithium-ion battery anodes. TiO2 has attracted considerable attention as a promising alternative lithium-ion battery anode. The evolution of studies on synthetic methods, performance improvement, and the size tuning strategy are thoroughly addressed. Following this, the book focuses on clarifying the mechanisms of lithium dendrite growth, the issues related to lithium dendrites, and the recent advances for technical solutions. To power electric vehicles, a minimum energy density of 300 Wh/kg is required. State-of-the-art LIBs are dominating portable electronics, but can only enable an energy density of 100-220 Wh/kg in practice to date. In this regard, metallic lithium is highly regarded as promising next-generation anodes, ascribed to its extremely high theoretical capacity of 3860 mAh/g versus 372 mAh/g of the commercial graphite anodes. Recent progress in the development of Si/Gn nanocomposite anodes for lithium-ion batteries is also studied. The synthetic routes and electrochemical performance of these nanomaterials and the underlying reaction mechanisms are systematically described. The authors maintain that more research efforts are needed for the widespread applications of such composite anodes in the future of lithium-ion batteries. Afterwards, the advanced ab initio atomistic thermodynamics approach for electrode materials in LIBs is formulated, which enables the resolution of the interfacial structure of an LIB electrode material in an electrochemical environment under (constrained) reaction conditions. This universal approach is outlined, using state-of-the-art electrode materials in LIBs, such as LTO or lithium cobaltite (LCO, LiCoO2) as examples.
