Описание: In this newly updated second edition of Blood Pressure Monitoring in Cardiovascular Medicine and Therapeutics, William B. White, MD, and a panel of highly experienced clinicians critically review every aspect of out-of-office evaluation of blood pressure, including home and ambulatory pressure, the relationship between whole-day blood pressure and the cardiovascular disease process, and the effects of numerous antihypertensive therapies on these blood pressure parameters. The world-class opinion leaders writing here describe the significant advances in our understanding of the circadian pathophysiology of cardiovascular disorders and demonstrate that ambulatory blood pressure values are independent predictors of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.

The Handbook of Cuffless Blood Pressure Monitoring: A Practical Guide for Clinicians, Researchers, and Engineers

Описание: This book is the first comprehensive overview of the emerging field of cuffless blood pressure monitoring. Increasing clinical evidence proves that longitudinal measurements of blood pressure allow for earlier detection and better management of multiple medical conditions and for superior prediction of cardiovascular events. Unfortunately, today’s clinical and industry standards for blood pressure monitoring still require the inflation of a pneumatic cuff around a limb each time a measurement is taken. Over the last decades clinicians, scientists and device manufacturers have explored the feasibility of technologies that reduce or even completely eliminate the need of cuffs, initiating the era of cuffless blood pressure monitoring. Among the existing literature, this book is intended to be a practical guide to navigate across this emerging field. The chapters of the handbook have been elaborated by experts and key opinion leaders in the domain, and will guide the reader along the clinical, scientific, technical, and regulatory aspects of cuffless blood pressure monitoring.

Описание: It is well known that cardiovascular events occur more frequently in the morning as blood pressure (BP) levels have been shown to increase during the period from night to early morning. In recent years, clinical research using ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) or home BP monitoring has clarified that morning BP and BP surge are more closely related to the cardiovascular risk than clinical BP. This practical manual from field leading expert, Dr. Kazuomi Kario, reviews recent evidence on morning and nocturnal hypertension and the IT technologies physicians can use to support patients in home monitoring BP. Guidance on management via antihypertensive drugs is also discussed and with the aim of promoting perfect 24 hour BP control .

Описание: A. , FADEN, K. KRAFr, and K. O. STUMPE Following the discovery of the pentapeptide enkephalins in 1975, a number of endogenous opioid peptides and opiate receptors have been identified. Endogenous opioids and opiate-receptor mechanisms have been implicated in a variety of regulat- ory and dysregulatory functions including analgesia, cardiovascular regulation, shock, hypertension, traumatic spinal cord and brain injury, stroke, immune func- tion, feeding behavior, diuresis, gastrointestinal motility, and respiratory control, among others. Over the past 10 years, many studies have demonstrated a relationship between endogenous opioids and the cardiovascular system under both homeostatic and pathophysiological conditions. Opioids and opiate receptors have been found in various cardioregulatory sites within the brain and spinal cord, as well as in peripheral tissues such as sympathetic ganglia, adrenal gland, and heart. Both endogenous opioids and exogenous opiates have been shown to produce potent cardiovascular effects following central nervous system or systemic administration. Opiate-receptor antagonists have been demonstrated to reverse hypotension from sepsis, hypo- volemia, and anaphylaxis; such studies have been used to infer activity of endogenous opioid systems in shock. Changes in tissue concentrations of endogenous opioids and or opiate receptors have been found after shock and hypertension, further implying a role for opioid systems in the etiology of these conditions. In addition, modification of opiate receptor regulation, receptor binding, or opioid metabolism has also been used to establish a potential role for endogenous opioid systems in cardiovascular control and dyscontrol.
