Описание: What happened when the writing of the Old Testament prophet Micah from the 8th century BCE was read and interpreted by Christians in the 1st to 5th century BCE? This research meticulously describes data from patristic commentaries and other ancient Christian works in Greek and Latin, as well as the remains of Gnostic receptions of Micah, and it analyses the interpretative strategies that were adopted. Attention is paid to the partial retrieval of Origen’s Commentary on Micah, which is lost nowadays, but was used by later Christian authors, especially Jerome. This work includes the ancient delimitation of the Septuagint version and patristic observations on the meaning of particular terms. Other aspects are the liturgical readings from Micah’s book up to the Middle Ages, its use in Christ’s complaints about Israel on Good Friday (the Improperia), and a rabbinic tradition about Jesus quoting Micah. It is noted whenever patristic authors implicitly use or explicitly quote Jewish interpretations, many of which are supplied with parallels in contemporaneous or medieval Jewish works. This first comprehensive survey of the ancient Christian reception and interpretation of Micah is a valuable tool for Biblical scholars and historians.

What will the reader learn from the thought-provoking, comprehensive, and compelling new book Reindeer Don'tFly by Michael Earl Riemer? They will uncover the numerous shortcomings and misconceptions of evolutionary doctrine. But most importantly, for those who are pastors, preachers, parents, high school and college students, and all others who need answers to the excess of false evolutionary dogma paraded before them ("science falsely so called" I Tim. 6:20), the reader will learn the answer to questions such as:
- Scripture records that there was a world-wide flood, so where did the water come from?
- Where did the water go after the flood?
- Is there enough water to cover Mt. Everest?
- Is there a reliable method scientists can use to date the age of the earth?
- Is there life in outer space?
- Did people really co-exist with dinosaurs?
- What was the pre-Flood world really like?
- Can animals evolve; change from one kind of creature into another species?
- If the theory of evolution is invalid and worthless, why do so many scientists and others promote this teaching?
What others are saying:
"The objective reader cannot ignore or dismiss the heartfelt passion, laser-like logic, and well-reasoned arguments posited throughout this book." - Freelance editor Bruce Victor Zatkow
"I've been reading your book and really enjoying it. It's refreshing to read something from a more intellectual viewpoint...Such a treasure trove of great information and logical illustrations" - Columnist Chris McMahan

"...having read books similar in topic as yours and comparing them, I found Reindeer Don't Fly involving the reader while some of the others were very hard to read. You make the book personal with stories and experiences you had. The stories allowed the reading to not become cumbersome." - Director of Headwaters Christian Youth, Mike Prom
"I read the first 60 pages and then scanned through the rest of it. Looks really good...You dealt with the fundamental impotency of evolutionism--its inability to explain the origin of organic life... Well-documented and convincingly argued...I am definitely interested in carrying this book as one of our titles in our website bookstore." - Edward E. Stevens, International Preterist Association
Leave your loved ones a legacy of blessings, wisdom, gratitude and hope.
Done right, an ethical will is a gift of love, a way of saying, 'This is what I found gave me satisfaction and gave my life meaning. It animated my relationship to you and to your mother (or father). May it do the same for you. I send this to you with much love.' --from the Foreword by Rabbi Harold S. Kushner
Ethical wills are precious spiritual documents, windows into the souls of those who write them, and are often a treasured part of a family's history. These "legacy letters" sum up what you have learned in life, and what you want most for, and from, your loved ones.
This book--a unique combination of "what is" and "how to"--offers a step-by-step process to help you prepare an ethical will of your own, and provides a wide range of contemporary ethical wills to help you do it. It reveals the ongoing relevance of this traditional Jewish practice for people of all faiths, all backgrounds.
The emotional power of the nearly one hundred last letters collected here, written by both famous and ordinary Jewish people, will inspire you to live more fully now, and to record your own blessings for the generations to come.

Putting Government In Its Place: The Case for a New Deal 3.0 tells the story of the House that FDR Built. Responding to the Great Depression, President Franklin Roosevelt and his New Deal team--most prominently, Frances Perkins--created four new clusters of domestic policy. Those policy clusters--(1) broad-based economic security guarantees, (2) means-tested welfare programs, (3) across-the-board market regulation, and (4) massive market manipulation-- emerged quickly during the original New Deal of 1933-1938 (Version 1.0). For the next 80 years, both Democrats and Republicans added dozens of new programs within the same four policy clusters, shaping today's New Deal writ large (Version 2.0).
The model worked fairly well during the post-WWII era when the U.S. dominated the world economy and technology remained generally benign. But since the mid-1970s, the New Deal settlement has sputtered in the face of rising international competition and highly disruptive technology. For decades, we've been stuck on a plateau of little-to-no progress--at times, deterioration--in economic security and market effectiveness.
Putting Government In Its Place: The Case for a New Deal 3.0 explains the major gaps, flaws, and mistakes of the New Deal settlement. Equally important, the book spells out, in outline and detail, the fundamental and sweeping changes needed to revive the New Deal. The proposed New Deal 3.0 would guarantee far greater economic security for all Americans, make our market economy dramatically more productive, and enlarge the nation's wealth. The result: America's next birth of freedom.
"Rabbi Riemer offers us the kind of wisdom that we need in order to survive and thrive," writes Dr. Bernie Siegel, best-selling author of a dozen books about spirituality and healing. The late Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel adds, "Jack Riemer's words are songs of hope and faith. Listen to them as I do."
Widely sought after as a master storyteller and teacher, Riemer is one of the most frequently quoted rabbis in the U.S. That's because of the winding paths he takes in describing the relevance of timeless Jewish wisdom in our modern world.
What do a professional baseball player, Elizabeth Taylor's jewelry box, a hurricane, a garbage dump and a blue blazer hanging in your closet have to do with each other? They're all turning points in Riemer's stories that lead us toward universal questions we all confront at some point in life, including:
Is there a dream that gives meaning to your life? What are our duties to the people we love? How do you make a decision when you're caught between two conflicting values? And, what would you do if you found out that your time on this earth was almost up?
Reflecting on Riemer's wisdom about life, retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor writes that the rabbi "is obviously a person with much understanding of the human situation."
Word of warning: The stories in this book may surprise you and perhaps make you chuckle, but they could change your life, as well.
