At the start of the twentieth century, Marie Curie, a Polish physicist and chemist, stunned the scientific world. Her research led to the discovery of two elements, polonium and radium. She also examined the most unusual property of these elements: radioactivity. This graphic biography follows Curie from her early life in Poland to her scientific education in France. It also spotlights her work with Pierre Curie and her efforts to treat wounded soldiers during World War I.

Описание: Digital Information Design (DID) is primarily a business information management (BIM) model. As with any model it is used to help you to describe problems and test potential solutions. DID is not like any other method or framework model; it is independent of any other existing model or framework and does not claim to manage the entirety of the design of business information services. DID identifies useful and widely used best practices that are designed specifically for use in any phase of business information service development from idea, conception, specification, design, test, handover, service management and operation, or managing architectural issues or hardware and software installation. Primarily, DID was developed to manage the quality of information, and how to put it to good use. The DID model has been designed for you to identify what you need and when you need it when designing business information services and as a broad guide, identifies key points in existing frameworks that are particularly useful. The model is wholly independent of all other frameworks (including BiSL and BiSL Next in which the basic design is rooted). You can choose and use whatever you wish, the model will help you to assess the validity of your choice(s) and identify strengths and weaknesses in your approach. The DID model focuses on the common languages to describe key elements of design (need and value, mission and capability), key business information perspectives (business, information/data, services and technology) and the high-level domains (governance, strategy, improvement and operation) that must be managed in order to effectively run any business.DID helps you to identify only what you need to ensure that business information design reflects what is needed by your enterprise. The model can be used entirely separately from the framework level guidance discussed and it can be used at any level in the organization. The essentials of DID are explained in two books: this book, Foundation and the Practitioner book that will be published later.

Описание: Compiles ON-A work philosophy: a constant search for innovative ad hoc solutions for each project, using the most updated technologies and design research. This book exposes and collects the innovations developed through 15 years of work at ON-A, through lengthy conversations between its founders and directors (Eduardo Guti rrez and Jordi Fern ndez) and the editor. This is not a usual monograph, but rather an exploration of ideas from an innovation point of view, according to four basic criteria: Design, Laboratory, Technology and Emotion. With the aim of understanding the different degrees of innovation on how they operate in ON-A, the book is organized into these four blocks. The first one is routed on Design as a starting point to attend the control of the geometry (inspired on mineral, arboreal, and organic shapes) and encoding the information (using parametric design, BIM, and coding techniques). That methodology allows us to visualize and interact with the continuum of data and workflows of all stages of development, attending to the entire life cycle of the project. Since ON-A considers themselves as a Laboratory rather than as a professional architecture office, the second conversation explores our ways of making innovative architecture throughout bioclimatic and sustainable experiments and tests done in their works and projects. In that chapter they talk about how to incorporate the 'green' feature through bioarchitecture --a layer of technological green that appeals to sustainability from materiality, management and maintenance-- in order to re-naturalize cities and reconnect people with the natural environment in favor of an ecosystem balance. Technology is the third chapter, a key tool to enhance design and creativity, carrying out complete material, structural and installation modeling that gives us control of any layout whether we use curved glass, precast GRC, wood or another innovative material technique to build their projects. Last but not least, the fourth conversation is about how ON-A's projects work as a catalyst for creating positive Emotions: physical-visual, well-being, and comfort that contribute occupants' health and flexible usability of the designed spaces. As a result of these four conversations, the book shows how to innovate in architecture from different layers with only one concern: helping to reduce the environmental impact of human intervention, improving citizens' quality of life and seeking the emotional interactions between the inhabitants and their environment.

Автор: Gausa Manuel, Vivaldi Jordi Название: The Threefold Logic of Advanced Architecture: Conformative, Distributive and Expansive Protocols for an Informational Practice: 1990-2020 ISBN: 1948765578 ISBN-13(EAN): 9781948765572 Издательство: Неизвестно Цена: 41330.00 T Наличие на складе: Есть у поставщика Поставка под заказ. Описание: During the last 30 years, Advanced Architecture has consolidated an interactive and informational logic that differs from that of Modernity and Postmodernity. This logic is threefold; it is modulated through three coexisting protocols -modes of action- whose peaks of intensity occur in three different decades: Conformative Protocols (1990-2000), Distributive Protocols (2000-2010) and Expansive Protocols (2010-2020). This work proposes a threefold cultural narrative whose interactive and informational logic differs from that of modernity and postmodernity. It positions three different ethos by critically approaching the architectural side of a cultural mutation that has been affecting the Western experimental areas of knowledge and practice since the end of the last century. A transformative process constituted by a constellation of transdisciplinary manifestations, accelerations, turns, shortcuts and clusterizations that by no means can be read under one single epistemological umbrella. In this sense, rather than approaching the practice of architecture focusing on its disciplinary inner specificity, this book approaches the research of experimental architecture focusing on its extra-disciplinary entanglements. It argues that a vast multiplicity of fields of knowledge participates in a cultural endeavour modulated through three protocols -forms of action- that singularize three decades: Conformative Protocols (1990-2000), Distributive Protocols (2000-2010) and Expansive Protocols (2010-2020). These three periods shouldn't be read as three hermetic and concatenated monades, but as three different modulations of the same narrative, that is, as three overlapping and coexisting systems whose peaks of intensity occur in three different decades. However, the main purpose of this book is not limited to unveiling the ethos of these three conjugations. It also aims at using this framework as a "time-field", a narrative map that moves from the classificatory to the cartographical in order to vectorize the last 30 years of experimental architecture. In this sense, this book argues that this threefold set of protocols represents the progressive attempt to constitute critical interiorities "looking for" and "produced through" interactions that are increasingly more intimate and whose agents are increasingly more diverse. A tendency oriented towards the consolidation of an "intimacy between strangers" that highly resonates with the cultural and technological landscape in which experimental architecture operates.
